  1. Thanks for the replies, the saw has done about 10 hours cutting since new so I had hoped it didn't need stripping or servicing yet. The chain is sharp and the mix very fresh, using stihl green oil, so I guess the other potential problem could be the fuel filter, the air filter is clean. Cheers, Danny.
  2. What are your thoughts on Danish oil compared to Osmo? I've been using Danish but am happy to switch to Osmo if it is a lot better. Cheers, Danny.
  3. Hi all, I've got the above chainsaw, it's about 8 months old and doesn't get hammered by any means. It has been running fine but this week I noticed that when cutting at full throttle it would start to lose power and then stop running, though it didn't cut out. I have tried adjusting the high rev control (there are three adjusters, 'h' 'l' and one for the idle setting, I forget the marking on that one ) but none of the adjustments seem to do much, I have referred to the handbook but it only covers the idle setting reall. Does anyone with more experience have any knowledge of this type of problem? Thanks! Danny.
  4. Thanks for all the info guys, I did actually see a Hitachi saw of a similar size to the Makita in my nearest cash converters, a 110v one. It was only £31.00 but I wasn't sure about buying from those places as there's no way of knowing the history. I can't afford a new one so I may give it a go. Atb
  5. Thanks for the links, I had planned on flipping the wood to do the remaining few mil but didn't really want to as it's just asking for trouble and a lot more finishing work. I will look into the models you suggested on eBay. Atb, Danny.
  6. Thanks for the offer mate very kind of you! I'm based in Walthamstow, East London/Essex borders so probably a bit too far from you. Atb, Danny.
  7. Hi guys, hope this is the right section for this. I want to cut some oroko to make a bed, they are 6 x 3" lengths. I have cut oroko before and know it is very hard. I need to get a circular saw to cut it and I'm looking at a Makita 5703r or 5704r. I wondered if anyone knew whether these would be up to the job? I guess a lot of it is down to the blade so if anyone could recommend a saw blade that would be great, thanks! Atb, Danny.
  8. Ok thanks for the replies. Think I will just use it for firewood then. Cheers.
  9. Hi all, I'm making lamps using cross sections of tree trunks as a base. I've been using deciduous wood such as oak, beech and hornbeam. I've been using these woods as they are heavy when seasoned so make good bases for my lamps. I have the option of felling a eucalyptus so I wondered if anyone knew of its properties in terms of would it be a heavy wood once seasoned such as the woods mentioned above? Thanks. Danny.
  10. Ok thanks mate I will do when I get a mo. Atb
  11. Hi mate, Thanks for the reply and the advice. Where would be the best place to find out what those terms mean, YouTube? Cheers.
  12. Hi all, My name's Danny, I'm not an arborist but I design and make lights from felled trees so I wanted to join this forum to get the occasional bit of advice from you experts. I'm particularly interested in learnng how to better cut felled trees and season wood without it splitting. Atb, Danny.
