Afternoon I am currently seeking to increase my workload and contacts mainly in Cumbria but possibly also around Northumberland and east Yorkshire. I am working as self employed with over 3 years experience In a varied range of tree work experience from domestic, rail, council, woodland improvement and so on. I'm polite, punctual, non smoker, keen and quick to learn, some common sense! I currently hold my ground saw and felling tickets, larger felling, rescue, climbing and cutting, dismantling, chipper, first aid , clean driving licence, water rescue ticket and brushcutter. I also have my own saws and PPE and transport. I am based near Kendal in Cumbria and work mainly from there however I am able to work around Northumberland or east Yorkshire with reasonable notice and sufficient work. <p>We messaged some time ago and I remembered you mentioning occasionally having work in the cumbria area.</p>
<p>I have recently returned to full time self employment and am looking to build my contacts and hopefully find more work in the area. I currently have by ground saw tickets, rescue, climbing and cutting, dismantle, chipper and first aid tickets with all my PPE and saws.</p>
<p>I you have any work this way ( I am currently based in Kendal) or knew of anyone needing someone I would greatly appreciate any help.</p>

As said above, very informative, I really appreciate it thanks very much for the reply! The main reason other than general interest was simply a discussion I was having with a colleague who wasn't convinced when I said that some ropes rely more on the outer than the core saying that all ropes are mainly using the core for strength. I'm sure I read somewhere that there were several different technical names for ropes such as cover dependant ones and core dependant ones ( I may be remembering wrong) All in all, if I use the kit I like to learn about it and you certainly helped there Thanks again

Could anybody point me to some information on climbing rope construction, I'm sure I have been told/read somewhere that other than the usual kernmantle design there are other types where the outer sheath is where the main strength lies, rather than the core. Could anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks

Maybe slightly bulkier than some but I found it very very comfy. Big padding straps, nice and adjustable.

Iv had 2 pairs of Englebert Strauss trousers and they have been brilliant, great fit, dry well, last if you take care of them. I have a 36inch plus leg and they just about do the job. Or splash out on some pfanners which are available in 35inch I believe. There are actually plenty to choose from if you have a scout about.

Morning I am currently working 3 or so days a week with a great local company in the lake district but am looking to ideally increase my working week by a few more days. I have been in the industry just over a year now and have: 201, 202, 203 saw tickets 206, 306, 308 climbing tickets NPTC brushcutter First Aid Driving Licence and vehical Ground saw and basic climbing kit Within the year i like to think i am fairly competent on the ground with a saw, helping with lowering and rigging and chipping e.t.c I have also started climbing with a few reductions and smaller take downs but am still at a fairly novice stage in the grand scheme of things. With a climbing background i seem to be learning fast and definitely keen to get hours off the ground learning as much as possible. Hope this is all the essential info you may need. Thanks David

Hi First of all assuming that the 'Basic tree climbing and aerial rescue' course is the next step to climbing after basic ground chainsaw tickets, i am looking for a training location in either Cumbria area or East / North Yorkshire. Does anyone know of any good trainer anywhere near or can point me to an appropriate thread. Cheers guys David

Thanks for the help guys. It would only be for a few days a week as I have already got a contract job which I will probably continue with. As for kit I supply my own ppe and saw but I will also use any kit of his I need and his saws. I wouldnt consider myself a self sufficient contactor. Just so long as I am covered by his insurance when on site and it isn't considered dodgey dealings so long as I look after my own end with regard to self assessments, then I'm happy.

Hi guys, Firstly hello, this is my first post however i have been lurking for a while... I a just starting in the industry and have had my basic tickets for a while however i shall soon be starting work with a local company. The boss advised me to register for self employment a.s.a.p as he can't offer me a full time contract or employment (understandable) He would then pay me daily for any work done at an agreed rate (i assume i would invoice him) All this sounds ok to me but i was just concerned about a few points. Is this a perfectly normal thing to do? Will i be covered by his insurance / how will i find out? I have been self employed before but in that situation i was the boss and wasn't working through anyone else. Hope this makes sense and someone could give me a bit of advice. Thanks David
