  1. Hello I know this is getting somewhat old but contact Martin Osborne if you need a mobile mill he is near Westbury Wiltshire. 0774399937 01380 830128
  2. I would suggest contacting smallwoods (Richard Thomason) through them you have the national coppice federation. From what you have described it sounds like the site would greatly benefit from a coppicing rather than the usual commercial woodland use.
  3. Self employed freelance hand cutter available for hire. CS 30 31, Trees over 380mm(new CS32). Own saws, kit, PPE. If there is anyone looking for an extra cutter or if you know anyone desperate to get more trees on the ground it is that time of year. Also if anyone is looking to sub out a whole job e.g. thinnings etc I could potentially provide a team including tractor winching and forwarding. PL and EL insurance.
  4. Thanks for the replies. So basically what I thought was right, I really didn't want to shell out another couple of hundred quid on something I don't need especially as I just self funded through my "cs32" big fell. Just at the moment I wont be taking on my own jobs, just intend to turn up and cut down what I am told to cut. Now just the minor issue of actually finding the work. Thanks again.
  5. Hello, I am trying to get into felling/forestry/woodland work and want some advise on insurance, my searches have not given me a 100% answer. I have been doing some tree surgery groundwork and understand that I do not need my own PL for that, I have also been working on thinnings with another guy he is tractor owner driver and work with him so same insurance situation I think. Also been doing woodland volunteer work doing coppice regeneration etc so I am not completely green to the industry and have saw experience. My main question is as a self employed one man band do I need PL for hand cutting operations. The situation is slightly different to the tree surgery ground work as you are going to be less directly "under the instruction" of the "site boss" and more autonomous. As I think I understand it I should still be operating under the umbrella of the PL for whoever is the main contractor with me being a temporary self employed employee for the length of the job. What has thrown me is that looking at some of the old job posts there are self employed hand cutters advertising for work saying they have their own insurance. And potential "employers" also saying they are looking for hand cutters but requiring them to have their own insurance. Thanks in advance for any advise I hope I can resolve this once and for all.
  6. The info I had was from someone having to cut softwood extracted through a "stream bed" so just really nasty sandy mud, I think he broke the odd tooth off though.
  7. Thanks I think thats what the guys in the US where on about just not explaining it as clearly. I can totally understand the benefit of upping production as time is money and time sharpening is not time earning and there can be a lot of sharpening with dragged out beech. Will seriously consider trying it out if I get some proper forestry production work. I have heard fairly good things about the carbide chains in very dirty conditions Thanks
  8. Thanks for the info I was pretty sure but wanted to get atleast one other person say it was ok. Its ordered now. I was looking into the 404 because a lot of the american sites seem to say that 404 cuts faster but I think thats because the depth gauges are run lower so each tooth bites deeper but it does require the extra torque to run. I might be using this for a bit of firewood/biomass cutting and the wider the kerf the more log you loose in dust by the end of the day.
  9. I have tried the calculator's but they don't have different sprocket options they all seem to be set to 7 pin standard (safe chain speed etc). I rang someone to check and they said take it to your local dealer, don't want to be rude but my local dealer guys are a bit slow in my experience and I will probably spend more in fuel going somewhere I can get some sense than ordering online, and they charge full RRP. The old manual for the 064 I found only lists an 8 pin sprocket I think the 7 pin might have been intended as a special high torque gearing.
  10. Hi new to the forum. Got an old 064 that needs a bar and chain its wearing a 8 pin rim sprocket, want to get a 20" bar for it. Was going to go for a Oregon powermatch and stihl chain 3/8 1.6 etc will a 72 drive link fit the 8 pin? the oregon calculator on the US site says yes but thought someone might be able to help. Thanks
