  1. Stem bleeding cankers can be caused by a few Phytophthora; Forest Research - Bleeding on oak stems It can also be a symptom of Acute Oak decline; Forest Research - Acute oak decline Is the tree in the southeast? If so, it's within AOD's area of distribution. Worth keeping an eye on. James
  2. Cheers Woodworm, I'll see if Brushcutter can turn anything up and then If I need too, I'll try Martyn Neve. Thanks James
  3. James, I'm a furniture maker, specialising in 17th century reproductions. I work almost exclusively in green oak, I plane it green and that's it it dries fine and smooth, you shouldn't have an issue with the finish. I should mention that I use hand planes for this ( hand planing green oak is fun!) If your using a thicknesser, don't take to big a bite. The machine will be hungry for the green wood but the chips will clog easily. Hope this helps James Edit: I'd advise avoiding putting oil on green wood, let the surface dry a little first if you can.
  4. Thank you! Really appreciate it. I don't have a solid time scale for this, I'd just like to be able to get on with it, but if the stuff isn't available, I'll just have to wait. Thanks again.
  5. By mid october would be good, sooner would be better.
  6. Evening everyone! As title says, I'm after some Doug fir and/or Larch logs for milling/hewing for a timber framed workshop. 30-90 cm diameter would be good, at least 3.7 m in length. I only need 6-7m3, but would consider a load depending on size. Would need delivery to Suffolk. Anyone out there able to help or suggest a source? Any help greatly appreciated.
