I want an apprentice who wants to learn this trade, is able to listen and take instruction. I want someone who will turn up on time and not be a text hog. I will offer decent pay and working environment. Surely there must be someone like that around??

I'd snap an arm and a leg off for that. At the moment I work delivering for Asda and then 2 mornings a week and my day off tree work.. pays a bit worse than Asda but job satisfaction is wayyy more important for me. Hate working for a bunch of corporate muppets

I was led to believe this before I got my CS30/31... first person I worked for soon brought me back down to earth... some people do get really lucky though

I use 2 stroke in my car, if you buy it in bulk it's quite cheap. Or something like Millers Diesel additive.
I used 150ml 2 stroke for 30l of diesel, quietened the car down loads and I was getting a noticeable improvement on MPG

The Newer Ford Ranger (06 onwards) are ment to be really good on juice and can be cheap if you get them at the right time of year.

I have one, it is quite heavy once fuel and oiled up, just starting to have problems with mine, starting it is a cow, it don't rev up automatically when started from cold, and when you blip the throttle it just stalls, found the best way to start it is with my foot jamming the throttle wide open and pulling it over, I know that's not right but until I can get it in the shop, it's just what I have to do
Mines doing that bud, only when I have let it run out of juice. I prefer it over most of the Stihls that I have used, revs hard and chomps away at wood fast enough for me

I did my first one the other day to.... such a feeling when the cracking starts and then it goes

Haha that's brilliant
I take it I need a fair bit of practice then?

Going away for 9 months!
Do i do my CS38 now or when I get back?
I am uncertain as I'll need to practice so I can do my 39 won't I?

Unfortunatly not, going back out in June I reckon then hopefully stay out till May the following year, come back to do some tickets if I have the cash.
It's so easy to get sucked into staying though, life is too good

Is the guy you worked for in Morzine, blond and married to a blonde chick... Living in St. Jean d'Aulps? A smaller village about 6km down the mountain nr the big Champion?
I have done 3 winter seasons there and am a regular visitor still in the Winters, never been there in the summer.
I've not worked for a Tree surgeon out there bud, just looking to see if there is one cause I wouldn't bother coming home , I've worked for Simply Morzine and another Chalet company, did a bit of laboring for a guy in St Jean. Just got my job that I agreed to last summer... Chalet Photographer winning!
Thanks for the replies guys

I think for that one it depends on the scenario... for example if you are putting them through college etc then you can pay a smaller wage as you are funding their education and all the PPE etc, and more often than not they are living at home and have little living costs.
In my case I have been to Uni and am now having to retrain (own fault), I don't live at home and have a car to run etc and bills so I'd be happy with similar to what I am earning with Asda at the moment as I can just about live off that, but I also don't have much interest in going to college so theres a huge cost taken out of that. However I am at that age where I understand that I am going to have to do some reading myself and learn off my own back but I kean to make a career in this so I am prepared to read off my own back.
Also I have my own PPE already and will sort my own harnesses etc out when I need them, although I wouldn't say no to a second pair of trousers if I was going it 5 days a week
