  1. Ha ha, funny as! Triangulation is a good thing!
  2. " The tree had been tested by myself last year with the Picus tomograph and was shown to have significant decay present due to colonisation by Phaeolus. This year both Mick Boddy and myself spent most of a day testing with the Tomograph and two resistographs just to be sure of the accuracy of our results. We tested at several heights and found extensive levels of advanced tissue degradation. The National trust considered all of the evidence and also asked Jeremy Barrell for an opinion. Be it financial or H&S they took a decision to fell the tree. We can all stand back and pass comment and be critical about anothers decision but the National Trust will have to carry the can in the event of a claim. I would like to have seen the tree kept following a reduction but I can understand the N T stance. We live in a world where litigation can influnece many decisions."
  3. "The cedar tree, which was planted on the Kingston Lacy estate in Dorset in 1827, will be pulled down because it is rotten." "The National Trust said the 'landmark' tree had to be felled immediately after experts found there was only five per cent live wood left in the trunk." That's what I found on internet
  4. Hello Dan Well the police would provide the legal aspect of the criminal damage that's been done. The Arb Association could then help promote good pruning practices and the National Trust, being the largest private land owner in the UK could help influence more robust legislation to help protect other trees and help prevent something like this happening again in the future. Being a member of both the Arb Association and NTS I've seen the positive impact they can have. You say they can't manage their own trees and woodlands correctly. Perhaps you could assist?
  5. Sycamore Gap: Boy, 16, arrested after Hadrian's Wall tree felled WWW.BBC.CO.UK The Sycamore Gap tree was cut down overnight in what police believe was an act of vandalism.
  6. This would be a good time, while this situation is being highlighted by the media for the likes of the Arboricultural Association, National Trust & NTS, etc., to band together alongside the Police to not only ensure the maximum fine is applied but to also highlight the importance of trees like this and the reasons as to why they are protected and that all trees should be pruned, if actually required, correctly and to the proper standards.
  7. Exactly! It looks like this boy has clearly had training and if so then he should have known better
  8. £20k fine as that tree must have been protected.
  9. Just heard on LBC that police have arrested a 16yo boy in connection to the felling of the tree.
  10. I’d already sold it to a friend. I just needed to confirm an honest and fair price for a second hand saw and the prices suggested were as expected.
  11. Light scuff marks on bottom and sprocket side from sticking it on the ground to move stuff and to refuel, has a sugihara bar, semi chisel chain half worn and an older scabbard from a 346xp as the 550’s was left on a job. Stickers all as they should be. Sold to a friend and wanted to make sure we each got a fair price plus we regularly work on jobs together.
  12. Thanks for your input, much appreciated folks. [emoji106]
  13. Hello Out of interest how much do you guys think a 550xpg mk 1 with occasional use be worth these days? Everything works as it should and runs perfectly.
  14. Yeah a picus. NE Aberdeenshire.
  15. Unfortunately its only one tree needing done so I guess that’s not worth your while?
  16. Hi All, Looking for some assistance please. I'm looking for a Decay Detection Survey in NE Scotland. Is there anyone in the area that could help?
  17. Yeah I know a LOLER Inspector if you're still looking for one?
  18. Hello all. Wondering if there are any rope wizards out there could help rescue me whoopie extreme? Not having any joy sorting it and don’t have the appropriate tools to fix it either.
  19. Thats some interesting information to think about, thanks guys. I’m probably going to look into older machines and see whats available by checking out the various links on the website. Yes I am fairly mechanically minded and I don’t need to worry about towing weight restrictions.
  20. Hello everyone. I’m looking for advice on buying a chipper and I’m wondering if I should buy new (unfortunately on finance) or look at 2nd hand? I’ve used a number of chippers over the years and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. If anyone knows of something decent for a reasonable price I could be interested to know about that. Tracked machines would be great but of course they are more expensive so it would depend on the price. If any dealers have something that could suit me I would be interested to hear from you.
  21. What about New England Braided Safety Blue? That’s what I’m currently climbing on. ZZ no good on that?
  22. Hi everyone. Looking for people’s opinions on whats the best rope to use on the new ZigZag Plus?
  23. Hello folks. Whats the going price for selling hardwood, freshly cut, per tonne?
  24. Could sell you a 550xpg and I've just sold a 346xp along with an extra crankcase. Could speak to the guy and see what his plans are for the 346
  25. Hello all. Has anyone used Polexim chippers before or does anyone own one? Would be interested to hear about people's opinions and experiences from those that have used them.
