  1. Ah this old chestnut. Theres a little passage which has a very narrow passageway thru it which chokes up on the gx160/200 carbs and causes this. Its a pilot jet.

    There are 2 adjustment screws, ones a plastic tickover type screw and the other is a brass air/fuel screw.The plastic jet is behind the brass scew. With the carb off you will see some very small holes in the main bore of the carb which will be obvious when you look.

    They need blowing out with carb cleaner, they block up causing the surging issue.

  2. counted six in a spiral/slipstream thursday in wales. Apparently many fly over here from france to feed on mixxy rabbits

     

    Cant say ive ever heard that? Plenty of pigeons come across from over there tho.

     

     

    They do congregate now in numbers for mating as suggested, They will pair up and go there seperate ways in the next month.

  3. Buzzards only really rely on carrion/road kill. They will eat young rabbits etc but despite there size they have small feet and are quite slow. Falcons rely on speed/impact/strike to kill whereas the buzzard cant.

    I saw a merlin this week in the wild which is the first one ive ever seen in my area. Used to breed peregrines in captivity etc so normally hear the latest gossip but never heard vof a merlin before in this area.

  4. Well decided to pull apart the 357xp (2002) this afternoon. Never had any issue with it, it never had the recall even and still runs the plastic clip on the inlet manifold etc.

    Anyway i divulge, reason was to me i felt the compression was down a bit, my compression tester doesnt work on chainsaws so had to use the "lift by the pull start" method and it would slowly wind out to the end of the cord.

    So armed with a new meteor piston/rings on spuds recommendation stripped it down etc. Was amazed how clean the cylinder was tbh given its age and work. Some blow by on the piston but apart from that all good. Gave the cylinder a quick port, took a few pics midway but phone went flat so couldnt take finished port pics but gives you a rough idea. Also widened the inlet/outlet slightly.

    All bolted back together in time to watch the rugby. Fired up 3rd pull afterwards but couldnt run it to long given living in a built up area etc so just gave it a quick tweak on the fueling but no chance to cut anything yet.

    Anyway 2 things...

    Compression doesnt really seem to have increased any given its had a new piston. (need to get a compression tester for 2 strokes) and secondly on the pull start it certainly recoils the starter cord after "the pull" almost like the vaccum of the engine pulling it back in. Neither im to worried about if im honest.

  5. Buzzards you mean?

    Not uncommon this time of year especially now farmers are pughing there fields. They quite happily land behind tractors and grab the worms on the surface. I think they are struggling a bit with the cold weather, i saw 3 yesterday on a roadkill badger, road kill rabbits etc are common but unusual for them to bother with a badger.

  6. Well ive actually ordered a 359 p and c already tho ive since read on a USA site theres possibly a difference in size of the small end? Never heard it ever before so maybe someone barking up the wrong tree, well thats what im hoping... I tend to be to impatient and want the parts in advance before rebuilding so i can just crack on and get it done tho spanners do get thrown in the works sometimes...

    Just rebuild a very clean 1985 husqy 50 and what a pita that was. Think i could answer just about any question now on them sods....i always thought up to now the older stuff was easier to rebuild but how wrong i was.

  7. Ok thanks. Bit of an old faithful saw so has done quite a bit of work in its time and amazes me how strong it still is regardless of compression getting low. I need to strip it as belive that there's a possiblity of 2 choices of piston size and small end size. Not entirely sure of age as no plate but imagine its an early one so the smaller of the 2 choices. May give it a light port job to whilst its all apart.I assume they respond quite well Spud?

  8. Ok thanks Spud, just nice to have a bit of reassurance im going to do the right thing. The 372 p and c can sit on the shelf as back up and atleast i got some spares bits like gaskets, muffler, inlet manifold etc as spares.

    I want to fit new p and c to the 357 also as starting to get weak on the compression side of things although still runs strong. Looks like a morning tickering with saws next weekend lol...

  9. Right after a bit of advice really, to cut a long story short ive got a husqy 365 special in my collection which i was going to upgrade via the 372 p and c.

    So off i went, found an NWP on the bay of e in america and bobs my uncle.... well that was until it turned up.

    Good quality finish etc no complaints there but oh hang on its an open port???? So now im in a predicament. The 365 has only ever cut down about 10 trees in its life so is hardly worn in and is closed port.

    Now im thinking i maybe better off just porting/tuning/muffler mod the 365 cylinder as i think it would prob produce if not as much but more power than the open port 372 p and c?

    Whats your views and why?

    I was hoping for the 372 mod simply as i already have a 357xp etc so wouldve been nice to have a bit more of a cc gap between.
