  1. Cheers! I feel like a bit of a leech on this forum at the minute, but really do appreciate the knowledge. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't brought some nasty firewood wrecking creature into my wood store! Thanks again! and my first thought was of 'I'm a celebrity get me out of here' lol

  4. D'oh! 'Wood' :-)
  5. Anyone know what this is, the would has gone on the fire outside anyway, just curious as the wood was riddled with them? Cheers
  6. Cheers guys, the centre of one of the larger pieces of cherry does appear to be a softer crumbly rot. Should I tackle this any differently? I.e scrape out the crumbly rot and split what's left. My main concern was ruining the first batch of well seasoned dry logs, by mixing them with much greener and some rotting logs as I mentioned earlier. Last time I use that particular individual :-(
  7. Hey there, A couple of queries here, I've only recently got into buying unsplit logs for my fire, as a bit of a hobby and to save a bit of cash. However I have had loads off two different people in my area one of whom was great and the other has kindly provided me with some rotting cherrywood (not spotted due to it being dark on delivery) as well as what appears to be woodworm. I've taken them out of the garage now, but I was wondering: Can you stack split logs with inner rot with your normal logs or is the rot still 'live?' And therefore likely to infect the rest. And also: What is it best to do with the woodworm logs? Should I still cut them into rounds and split for it to season. And again if outside will the woodworm thrive or die off? Cheers
  8. cheers for that, i'm a complete novice when it comes to knowing my trees. I'm just getting into it due to having an open fire and the requirement for firewood. which in the coventry area is very difficult, as it seems everywhere near me sells logs by the m3/split. i need to find somewhere nearby that sells larger logs or branches, that i can saw down and split myself (more as a hobby than anything else, but may save a few quid in the process :-) thanks again pete
  9. Hi there, first post here, and i was wondering if any of you can ID these logs for me, as i was given them for firewood, and i just want to make sure i season them properly. I was thinking along the lines of horse chestnut (i'll now wait to be smacked down with my lack of knowledge ) thanks in advance pete
