  1. Going back into the distant past and an engineering aprenticeship - the file only cuts on the forward stroke but as long as there is no pressure on the file during the backstroke it won't do much harm - I've not seen many fellow engineers lift the file clear during the backstroke - unless it's the last few finishing cuts and the extra time/care is warranted. Sharpening any tool follows the same principle - little and often, don't let it get too blunt in the first place!
  2. The much maligned grey squirrel does have its uses - it is quite tasty! A good way of exacting revenge for the damage it can do with its feeding habits!!

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
