Any preference or both just the same ? Was thinking of getting the Vallorbe PRO sharpening kit including 4 files and a flat file or instead just a few Oregon files .

Thanks for the replies . Rich , do you mean start the saw then screw the T screw right in while ticking over ? I think I`ll try to get the plug out again , it`s from a company in the Welsh borders so can`t really take it in to them . I don`t mind it being scruffy but worried the engine might not be right . If it`s four-stroking would that stop it ticking over after running at high revs ? . It`s a pain having to continually start it between cuts . Cheers

OK not a chainsaw but wondered if anyone here had experience with this machine if that`s allowed ? . I`ve just bought a 2011 second hand one of these . It`s done plenty of work but sold as mechanically sound with 90 day warranty . Got it started OK but it`s very slow to pick up speed , to build up momentum so to speak . Once it`s up to speed it goes well and I got some work done with it on concrete yesterday but if I let the revs drop once it`s spinning fast it seems to lose momentum and often cuts out . It got fresh fuel mix , same as the chainsaws get , with stihl HP super 50:1 . I blamed the belt being slack and have tightened it but no difference , the air filter looks new , I cant get the spark plug out as it`s so tightly screwed in and dont want to use too much leverage as might do damage if I`m sending it back . I`d say compression was a good bit less than my 365 for example , sometimes the pull cord doesn`t retract properly and I`ve to pull it back and forward gently to get it wound back in but maybe this is normal as I`ve never used this type of saw before . Anyone know why it`s so slow to pick up and should I be thinking about sending it back ? .

I`m looking forward to this thread as I bought a 365xt with 20" bar on the recommendations of the good folks here and I love it but wouldn`t mind a bit more performance in thicker stuff . I think I read somewhere the air filter might be upgraded on the 372 - I guess the carb will need adjusting after the transfers mod as well ? . Will you be doing other mods too , 18 stoner ? .

What are the pros/cons of 8 or 7-tooth sprocket and .325 or 3/8 chain ? . Cheers

I`m not qualified to answer anything technical , but the 365 advertised by FR Jones is the X-Torq model and it says so on the Husqvarna sticker on the side below "365" . I think the decomp. valve is on the opposite side in older 365s whereas on the xt it is on the top . Also the handbook supplied covers the 365xt , 372xp and 372xpg , but does not mention the ordinary 365 . Hope this helps .

It would be occasional use really , I`m sure a good secondhand one would be good enough for me but on the other hand I can claim the VAT back on a new one , so maybe not much of a difference . Something like a 346 or 550 would be within budget . I wouldn`t be doing any felling but I`m sure the 42 would struggle a bit with a fully grown fallen sycamore or ash . The forestry guys would come in and deal with the trunk and leave the rest for me to clear up , so was thinking of something that could handle the full tree without being too unwieldy or heavy . The estate my farm is on has paid off the forestry staff , leaving the tenants to deal with fallen trees on their own now . I like the 42 I`ve got but have only been dealing with large limbs at most , not whole trees which the 42 will struggle with . Would I notice a big difference with a 346/550 or need something more powerful and what size of bar ? . I`ll keep the 42 for small stuff anyway . Cheers

The man`s a genius , cheers Spud ! . Got the pipe out and cleaned and everything back together , now just making a few adjustments to stop the chain turning at idle but starting and running well . All my own fault as the saw was filthy and hadn`t been looked after properly , so lesson learned there as well . Many , many thanks ! .

I`m in SW Scotland Rich . The nearest Husky dealer is quite a bit away and told me they couldn`t look at it for a couple of weeks ! . I can`t think it is the carb. now I`ve had it running well on its side , reckon it must be the blocked breather as Spud says .

I think you`ve nailed it , Spud ! I got it running for quite a while on its side and it was revving just as normal .I stopped it because there was quite a bit of fuel leaking from either the fuel pipe or between the fuel pipe and the grommet where it comes through the housing before joining the carburettor . I emptied the tank but can`t see anything inside except the fuel pipe with the filter on the end , there doesn`t seem to be anything near where the fuel pipe exits , there is a thing like a thin black rod running crossways at the top of the tank but I`m guessing its a bolt. Could you give me an idea of where this air vent might be from the outside and what it might look like ? I`m not sure what you mean by AV connections .I`ve taken off the air filter and the white coloured housing that slides over the adjustment screws and carries the blue and red wires but I think I need to get at where the fuel pipe leaves the tank area ? . It was empty when I got it out of the shed but I hadn`t run it `til it stopped out of fuel as I know you`re supposed to if putting it away for a while . It starts easily from cold and runs for about 7 or 8 seconds and will rev up but then just dies away . Starting it immediately after that it will only run for 2 or 3 seconds before cutting out and will not start so easily after that until cold again . The F-I-L took it to his friend who is good with saws but he couldn`t get anywhere with it either , hence they reckon it`s a new carb . I`ll have another play around with it and adjust the idle if it will go long enough ! . Cheers for the replies .

Hi , I`ve got a 42 special that sat in my shed all winter unused after I was involved in a car accident . It starts easily but won`t run for more than a few seconds . I`ve had it for about 8 years from new and it`s been a good little saw except for a couple of times when I was giving it too rich a mixture . I`m not mechanically minded but my father-in-law who is reckons I need a new carburettor . Does this sound right and anyone know where I can buy the right parts online for it ? . Cheers
