  1. Stein AB Descender arrived this week, Thanks Ed, now has pride of place in my aerial rescue bag.
  2. For me the key is getting the top right, as the gives you your line to work from all the way down. If you've got that right, then as you start reducing the rest of the canopy back, you often find yourself cutting back to similar sized growth points, as you reveal the tree within the tree. The main thing is to believe what you are seeing, if it looks like a bit is sticking out whilst you're up the tree then it will definitely be sticking out when you get back on the ground.
  3. Some great help there, thanks guys
  4. I've got 25 tonnes of Atlas Cedar stacked in my yard from one tree. Ideally I'd ;ike to try and sell it but have no idea where to start trying to value it. I'll attach a couple of pictures, but the main stem weighs 5 tonnes and is nearly 5 feet across, the other bits are on the whole pretty staright and range from about 18 inches to three feet across. It seems too good for firewood but is there a market for timber such as this?
  5. I think there may be a tax advantage in buying a new vehicle as opposed to used, please don't quote me on this I've never really looked into it because I've never had the funds to buy new. A builder I know however always buys vehicles new, then makes use of the fact that the allowance for capital depreciation is actually greater than the true depreciation when looking at market value....Any accountants online?
  6. Hi I'm looking for a freelance climber for occasional work in Dorset usually in blocks of two or three days, including weekends. Minimum two years independent climbing experience and evidence of qualifications. Must have own climbing kit and PPE. P.M me with contact details if you are interested.
  7. Hi Jon, I'm in the same boat, which Nick do you mean?
  8. Great thanks, is anyone interested in about 600 cubic feet of the stuff!
  9. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of miling Atlas Cedar, I've spoken to a couple of sawmills and they had never heard of it! My real question is, is it commercially viable to mill or will I be stuck with a load of unsellable timber. Seems, too nice to go to firewood.
  10. Thanks for the replies, will certainly go down the refresher route. Rigging seems to be full of gadgets these days but the principles are the same as they always were. I see nobody favours a stout pairt of corduroy trousers for climbing anymore, all gone to these new high-tech chainsaw trousers
  11. I was wondering if anyone could help me to know what I need to get my old qualifications recognised against current standards, or do I need to be re-assessed. I did the City and Guilds 10 week tree surgery for craftsmen at Merrist Wood in the early 90's and then spent several years contracting. About 10 years ago I stopped full time climibing but always kept my hand in. I'm now returning to the industry and would be grateful for any advice.
