  1. Hi I did unit 5 on day 1, I wasn't at work on Friday so I only learned on Monday morning I passed ! that's it all over and done with . I feel I have really achieved something .
  2. Greetings , I had word from an old study buddy and she reckons that there is a possibility that there may be a set of management days run in May of this year as well as October. This is because there are so many people having to resit different parts of the management days and it is the last opportunity to do it this year . Anyone that this applies to should find out for themselves I will check with A B C myself but you should register your interest with your training provider.
  3. Hi To answer both points raised , I have already sounded it with a mallet as a matter of course , I have also micro hammered it and compared it against another healthy plane to cross reference the results , they where both high readings the healthy tree being in the 1300s' and the infected one 1200+ , But this is only testing the stem in one plane (as in direction of sound wave not tree species name) and traditionally my understanding is meripulus affects the underside of roots. Hence the intention to air spade and resistograph , these trees are roughly 120/140ish years old circumference is getting on for five metres dia at stem base where I micro hammered is getting on for 130cm they are big old sticks. Interestingly there are two sites on the stem with fruiting bodies virtually directly opposite each other at one point the fruiting body is in the usual position of stem base / soil interface. On the other side of the stem the bracket comes straight out of the stem at 30cm . I will sort out some photos when I get a chance thanks for all your useful observations and comments I'm much obliged.
  4. Hi Does anyone out there have any experience of Meripulus on london plane I sort of instinctively dont feel as concerned as if it was on beech in a similar setting (in a high target public park). My understanding is that plane respond better than ash when infected with inonotus . I wondered if it had a similar relaitionship with meripulus. It is in the early stages of infection this is the first year I have seen the fruiting bodies. But I did fell a beech a couple of years ago 90 yards away with meripulus. Next step I feel is to air spade round the affected buttress and resistograph that baby . Any thoughts:thumbup1:
  5. Good old fashioned ustulina sorry I cant spell kretzscmaria That is scary it looks pretty advanced the phrase "catastrophic tree failure " spring to mind , I would get it down as dead or dangerous pretty sharpish if in a roadside position . Ive had a beech fail in a woodland I inspect and you wouldnt have thought it could stand on such thin remaining walls .But it is was at the bottom of a slope protected by other trees I'll try and dig out the photos.

    ash dieback

Hi I was called out to take a look at some ash that were planted in 1917 the other day , The old farmer who's grandfather had planted the ash had noticed some dieback over the previous 2 summers, I took some samples and will send them on to forest research but i'm pretty sure it is bacterial canker (pseudomanas syringae fraxini) but then the leisions are on the twigs starting at the extension growth from 2 years ago.So I am also thinking some sort of nectria cancker .I dont want to overwork the scientists who I am sure are busy but I feel I cannot ignore it. The old boy blames intercontinental trucks and transport for bringing it in .
  7. Hi to everyone out there, Does anyone have any experience of Meripulus on platanus x hispanica I've got a big old specimen pushing 140 years old in a high target area . I felled a similar aged beech 3/4 years ago just down the way from this plane but the root plate on that was chocka with fruiting bodies absolutley bumper to bumper. This appears to be early on in the fruiting as at first I thought it was Grifola but I bruised it and went for a walk round to check the other trees and when I returned it had blackened up. I think that the plane will respond better to a reduction than a similar aged beech if that is what it comes to as it is in a very high target area . Thoughts ?
  8. Hi Bundle 2 I don't think there have been any major changes to njug and nhbc but there have been some fundamental changes in b.s. 5837 mostly around establishment of the r.p.a. I am reading it through at the moment. Along with every thing else like the new 3998 the list is endless.
  9. Hi Glenn Thanks for the heads up , I have already started chasing up my invite with a.b.c. etc I still havent got any details though .Regarding the examiners report the one I was sent by a.b.c. is the level 6 written paper and september series management day report . Is their a management day for the level 6 as well ? as I think it may be the wrong examiners report I received. So if you do have the tech cert one as oppose to what i think i have (diploma) I would appreciate a shuffty !
  10. Hi Glenn I am doing my management day this october after resiting my law paper although I am still waiting for my invite . could you please send me a copy of the report I'm going to need all the help I can get thanks in advance and best regards
