  1. In this instance we were quoting to supply and erect the fence and were just given the specification to supply tree protection fencing to BS 5837, I haven't seen the AMS but would expect to see it if we are awarded the job. Thanks for the reply's everyone, it has been very useful
  2. Thanks Kevin Would they still have to be fixed to the ground to prevent movement, or would a stay and another block be sufficient?
  3. This might be a bit of a straightforward question, but i can't seem to find a definitive answer elsewhere. When erecting tree protection fencing around a tree that is adjacent to a car park, I assume the specifications of the fencing is exactly the same as anywhere else, and the installation would be achieved by breaking out of an area of the tarmac to install the posts? Additionally, how would this change if it the surface was concrete or a hard surface to be retained? I appreciate the ultimate aim is to protect the rooting area, so the surface is already going to be giving some protection, providing that it is preexisting, but surely the fencing is aimed to protect the tree as a whole during works? Thanks in advance

  5. Steve Had two occurrences where a pop up has come on whilst using Arbtalk on my PC, see photo. I shut everything down and ran a virus scan which came back clear. Don't know if it's relevant to others or just me, Thanks

  9. Ridleaves Ltd is a small and growing Arb Association Approved Contractor, and due to an increasing work load we are looking to hear from individuals to work either in the arboricultural or landscaping sectors We carry out a varied and interesting work load within a company with a good team environment and a value of providing high quality work. We are looking for climber(s) with a minimum requirement of CS39 (or equivalent) We are also looking for landscape operatives to carry out brushcutting works and machine operating (mostly tractor work) Interested individuals should pm or email [email protected]
  10. We have recently planted a line of 6 container grown leylandii to replace a section of hedge damaged by fire. The client has been watering them regularly and they are good healthy stock, however, some of the trees have areas of yellowing at point where you the leaves join the stems. My thoughts are nutrient deficiency and stress from planting as there are no signs of any pest or other external factor. Anyone have any thoughts on cause and remidial action (if any) Many thanks

    Yew Logs

I know, unfortunately access was difficult to the rear garden, we did manage to rip a couple of bits but had to quarter the stem due to the weight of it. Photo below. Had some interest, still some available

    Yew Logs

How so? If you are interested I would be happy to put some in a dumpy bag and on a pallet to post. As said I'm offering them up as I would much prefer to see it used than turned into firewood.
  14. Hi, We have recently taken down a decent sized Yew tree and wanted to know if anyone was interested in some of the logs? I don't want much for them, just beer tokens would be fine, would just prefer to see some of it used. If no one wants it they will be logged. Based near Salisbury, and can deliver if necessary Pictures (hopefully below)
  15. Hi, Looking for another tip site, for a job near Spencers Wood, Reading. Large amount of chip, from a job this coming week Thanks in advance
  16. Hi, Looking to get rid of several loads of chip in the area around Calne, Lyneham, Chippenham. It will be all conifer probably couple of loads a day for a week, happy if anyone wants all or just the odd load, it will save me carting it home. PM if you would rather keep it private Many thanks in advance
  17. Hi, Bit of a long shot, but wondered if anyone had a tool locker for sale, one to go behind the cab of a Cabstar. Ideally aluminium with a roller shutter door. Failing that, any ideas of decent fabricators in the south of England Many thanks in advance
  18. Had a look around the site for the first time in a long time today and most of the trees would be around 12" dbh, there wouldn't be much there bigger than 15" and also a number that are a bit smaller, would this make a difference to which mill you would use. Thanks
  19. Thanks for the response, much as I thought. As you say, I haven't done any milling before, we would ideally get a mobile saw mill in, therefore the operator could advise on any of the process that would get the best from the stock. I'm pretty sure the client would like it milled straight edge going on what he has been building so far. Hopefully someone who would be willing to travel to Salisbury area will get in touch and we can see what we can arrange. Thanks again
  20. Hi, Been having a chat with a client today about the possibility of milling some timber. Plan is to fell half a small woodland block of larch, which will total around 60 trees, these will be cut and extracted roadside. He would quite like to mill these into cladding for some buildings he is currently putting up. Questions are; Is it cost effective to bring in a mobile mill and board on site, or is it better to either send to a local mill (there are one or two about) or sell the timber in the round and buy cladding from the builders merchant? When is best to mill? When green? Will the timber dry under a tarp or is it best moved into one of the barns? Does anyone have any contacts for local (ish) mobile mills near Salisbury Thanks in advance
  21. Hi, Unfortunately the person who was going to help me stumpgrinding on Monday is no longer available. Site is on the side of the motorway near Reading and requires a large tracked stump grinder capable of grinding numerous stumps over a day or two but needs to be Monday Tuesday next week. We were using a large Carlton so anything similar would be great, sensible money for a decent machine and operator, Please pm on here or ring 07733231010 anytime over the weekend Thanks in advance
  22. We're looking for a number of individuals to assist with our current workload. All ground based positions, suitable tickets include CS30, CS31 (or equivalent) brushcutter and first aid.
