    So Fed Up

Cheers fellas, I've read all of your comments and I think I need to have a sit down and decide what I want out of my work. Like most of you say a change of scenery will do me good so that's the route I'm going to go down! Thanks guys

I think having read all these comments maybe it's more where I am rather than the industry which is what I needed to figure out. Cheers

See that's the helpful comment I wanted. I wanted someone else opinion on leaving the industry and not necessarily regretting it. Thankyou

Yeah I get that, I know it's not a job you can do forever which is why I was hoping someone would be able to suggest a different route related to this industry to go down. I was also just curious as to whether anyone had any advice as what to do next rather than just jack it in altogether and regret it. Thanks

That sounds pretty good, do you need any specific tickets or qualifications? It's something I've looked into but not enough to know where to start trying to get into that line of work. Where abouts are you based?

Right I think that's basically what I want to do but wanted someone who's done it opinion. I wanted to know that it's easy enough to get back into and that the love of the job does stick with you, Cheers

Yeah that makes sense, I think you're right on the whole fed up of my situation. I can't honestly say that the company I work for is ideal anymore but I don't want to join another company and be in the same situation. I'm glad it's not just me who's lost interest slightly!

There's sooooo many 'tree surgeons' in this area which is why it's tricky to get work at the moment as it's an absolute nightmare trying to make any profit as they're all undercutting each other out of spite! I started as s/e as when I left college at 18 no one in my area would take on a newly qualified female basically, as I was asked numerous times if the job was for my son! Hence going s/e as it was easier for me to get work that way.

22, spent 2 1/2 years in the tree the rest on the ground due to injury, not sure I can go back to being a climber and be able to say that my shoulders will survive it. Have most of my own gear, harness ect and ground saw ect ect. I've got all of my relevant basic groundy tickets but due to being self employed I know I should have but I never bothered getting any further tickets. I went to being employed as I had commitments (horses) to pay for and at the time I wasn't getting quite enough work being self employed. Now I'm wondering if I should have just stuck with being self employed and diversified. I'm stuck on what to do as I've only ever done this as a job and I do enjoy it most of the time but good days seem to be less regular. Just wondered if there's something similar that I could do till I realised that I actually do love my job

I'm actually in north norfolk now but haven't changed my location. I'm stuck on whether I want to carry on with trees or not. Is this just 'a phase' tree surgeons go through?

I'm 3 ciders in so 1 word questions aren't my forte but if that's in reference to what I want to do instead the answer is I have absolutely no idea, hence my need for help from people who'v been doing it longer than me!

    So Fed Up

So quick question, do any of you fellas get fed up of the tree game? I've spent 6 years being self employed and spent the last 6 months employed and I'm starting to hate the restrictions and lack of flexibility of being employed. There doesn't seem to be enough work in my area to go back self employed/ subbing to other companies so I'm now starting to wonder whether to take a break from trees altogether and go down a different route. Does anyone/ has anyone been in the same scenario and have any advice or ideas? I'm worried that if I leave this line of work I won't be able to get back into it and regret my decision. Help would be appreciated! Cheers

  17. hi everyone, I'm currently looking for full time employment as a groundie anywhere within 3 hours of Lowestoft as I'm looking to relocate anyway. I've hopefully attached my cv to this thread so you can see all my qualifications ect. I have 5 years experience, my cs30,31 and 38, my chipper ticket and drivers licence. Happy to work in any weather and I'm used to long hours. If you have any jobs available or know of anything in your area it would be great to hear from you, many thanks. jennifer ayers cv.docx
  18. Thankyou so much guys. Much appreciated. X
  19. Hi guys and gals, yes it's that time of year again when i'll be asking you all to check your pockets and sofa's and donate whatever you can to help us beat cancer. Sadly in January of this year i lost my grandad to cancer after only a 3 month battle against it. For the period that he was unwell we were so well supported by the hospital and everyone who knew him but that still doesn't take away the heartache as i'm sure many of you will know first hand. By raising money for cancer research we are helping to fund a brighter future where more people will survive and be able to spend longer with their loved ones. After last year's success of raising a wopping £475.60 i thought this year i'd push myself and do the 10k race, now i know it's only 6 miles but with a tutu and fairy wings i'm sure it'll feel further! If any of you could donate no matter what it is it will be greatly appreciated. The link for my just giving page is below so even if you just donate £5 it will soon add up. Thankyou in advance to those fabulous people out there who will be checking their pockets and sofa's for any loose change. You're the people who make it happen. https://www.justgiving.com/jennieayers
  20. Hello, I'm currently self-employed and work for a company but after 3 years and a few problems along the way i'm looking at starting a fresh somewhere new. At the moment i currently don't hold a uk drivers licence but i am working on getting it within the next couple of months. Although i don't have as much exerience as many people in this line of work i am a quick learner and a hard worker and i'm willing to turn my hand to anything. In my cv it states that one of the roles that i undertake at work is climbing. Although i can climb and have my CS38 and all of my own climbing gear i am currently unable to climb due to a dodgy shoulder which i should be having an mri scan on within the next month or so. I know that this will potentially put off many future employers but i think it's only fair that you should know. Not only am i interested in becoming someone's new groundie i wouldn't mind learning how to become a tree officer and getting some on hands experience in that line of direction. I'm based in lowestoft so i'm looking for something around the lowestoft, loddon, norwich, yarmouth, bungay and beccles area. Many thanks for reading, if you know of anything or anything i could do to improve my chances in any way it would be fab to hear from you experienced people out there. Thankyou, Jennifer final CV.doc
  21. Oooh in that case i think i'll steer clear of them then thanks for the heads up.
  22. At the min they're all topping out hedges or easy take downs so i think until i start doing bigger jobs i'll go without but when i do i'll probably reconsider. does anyone know what sort of price it is for personal health/ injury insurance. i've been quoted about £12 a month from aviva, is that about right? cheers.
  23. Thanks, that's what i was thinking, i'm not doing any massive jobs but i thought i'd best check with you guys first in case you were like 'oh yeah no you deff want insurance and this is what you want' phew saved a few pennies then. cheers.
  24. Hi, i've started to do a bit of private weekend work and was wondering what, if any insurance i need. I know it's public liability but can anyone reccommend a company and what sort of cover i need. Also health/ personal injury insurance can anyone reccommend a company/cover and would it be hard to get cover due to a previous injury and would i be able to get covered should something like that happen again. Thanks in advance.
