  1. what are you talking about thats why i have 2 straps i have bollards that are designed the same way !!!
  2. and i cannot find any numbers on my grcs original do you know where they are ?
  3. ok mate the thing is that the winch has been tested individualy.otherwise it wouldnt have a swl .the bolts have been tested before you buy them.and the steel gets tested before you buy it and so do the ratchet straps .but if there was welding on the unit then yeah fair enough because the weld has no swl . this is what my loler man has said anyway haha so you put those together you have a safe unit i guess as long as the rope you use is the weakest link . now say that you were a sailer and get paid to do it as a job and you put a new winch on your boat is it tested when you fit it ?? i cant see any different. and i have bought a number of bollards and there are no numbers on them atall .dont know sounds a grey area to me
  4. the only thing im not sure of is i like to take the winch off easy just incase i hit it with a log

  13. yeah was thinking that but didnt wanna scratch the paint work haha .was thinking of making the base plate out of ally but i think the hooks for the ratchet strap would chew the ally up a bit
  14. wish i waited for the smart winch have you seen it only 26kg the whole thing !
  15. im gunna make the next one like a pig tale hold the rope better
  16. ok 2 mins nah you cant take them off but i guess you could desighn something
  17. it was a pain in the ass to carry in a bag .i work on the railway so gotta walk a fair old way .its so much easier to put back up .aswell the problem with the strap if its not on a big tree you cant get it tight enough even with 2 people ! the 10 tone ratchet strap i can get it tighter because there are less ravels on the ratchet if you get my meaning
  18. haha its ok mate .yeah its been LOLER tested he said its fine because its not ppe and it dosnet need any numbers because im not selling them
  19. so i scrapped the strop and pole so much lighter
  20. cheers mate nah got a nice bollard for them !
  21. the swl is 1300kg for the winch and so is the bolts for bolting it to the base plate so really id more worry about the rope it can take 16mm rope but even then the brs is 7t .id happily put 1300kg on it and i reckon i have! lol
  22. yep swl 1300 same as harken
  23. winch cost me 250 but in all it owes me 280 not bad considering the original grcs cost me 2300 !! lol
  24. ha bolts ? nah mate there 5 8mm stainless its not really got much to do with how big theye are its the friction between the winch and the base plate the sheer strenght of them bolts are more than 10 tone you cant put bolts any bigger in the winch thats the size .pretty much you have to think the winch for the grcs is desighned for sailing. base plate works well i have an original grcs .and to be onest the home made one works better
