  2. I have to wholeheartedly agree with others. The Salisbury is a solid thing and if all you're saying is you have an oil leak from your diff then thats just a standard Landrover thing. Its a really cheap job parts wise. Definitely replace the flange (cheap) as well as the seal as a worn flange will wear the new seal. Very (very) often this seal is incorrectly fit which causes it to fail very soon.....here's a link from the tech archive of one of the landy forums (this may be standard LR rear axle and not Salisbury but method the same) Replacing the diff pinion oil seal. - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum
  3. To further the MLW issue on Landrovers. Standard 110s as mentioned are 3050kg....however a lot are rated 3500kg. Almost all of the ex-utility company land rovers are 3500kg. If your looking then the standard Landrover badge under the bonnet states the axle weights but most ex-utility land rovers have a "special vehicles" plaque also under the bonnet which is an instant giveaway. The difference is with the rear suspension - extra plates are welded to strengthen the rear chassis and double coil springs are used (sometimes called helper spring). IMHO this set up is brilliant. The rear is so much firmer especially with heavy loads. The double coils are much better than a single HD spring (again IMO).
  4. Hi, Straight up an honest.....I'm an offshore engineer & marine surveyor (currently off the Norwegian coast now) so I'm not quite a master of the forestry arts and chainsaw groovers. But I am a mad landy freak and lover which I inherited from my old man. Some folks on the Landrover UK forums pointed me this way and I'm guessing there's a lot of crossover between Landrovers and arboriculture having gone through a load of your threads here. A lot of you folks have some damn fine Land Rovers from what I've seen so far. Anyway, to the point, Dad is about to sell his 1982 Series 3 88" 2.25NAD which has a Tipper conversion done on it about 2 years ago by a Cornish arborist (crikey he may even be on these forums!??). Dad's looking at selling his two Series 3 88"ers to get a 109" as a new project. The Tipper version is in very good nick for its age. He was just going to advertise locally and on ebay. We don't really know what its worth so I recently asked the landrover lads on the Landrover UK forums. They were pretty quick in saying that she was a little beauty and that I should come straight to Arbtalk and see whether any of you would be interested as it probably fits the bill for your trade. I guess you may not be able to see the pics on the landrover forum link, so I'll post a couple here in a couple of hours (gotta get on deck now for a crane lift). Cheers Ziggy
