  1. Well Mark is there ever a right time to go it alone? sometimes I think you just have to jump in and do it, the main reason I asked these questions is I have only ever used two types of chipper and wanted a larger overview of what people's opinions on other machines out there was best.I am 52 and if I don't do it now then I will never do it.
  2. I am of the same opinion mate most will be going on the chipper.I just need people to chip in(excuse the pun) with what they think about the chippers out there.
  3. my budget for the van and chipper is a max of 20k
  4. these are some of the chippers I have been looking at buying Jensen A530 timberwolf tw150 or tw190dh greenmech ChipMaster 220 I would value your thoughts on each if you have used them all which one did you rate the best for easy to work on and how they chip.
  5. Hi all it's time to strike out on my own and buy a bigger van and chipper of my own so what do you all recommend chipper and van wise, and why? any recommendations would be welcome (and needed) cheers in advance Marc
  6. May have to bite the bullet and go with a husky it seems
  7. I like them but not at that bloody price, how do you guys/girls on here rate the new husky t-handle?
  8. Hi all does anyone know of anyone still selling new ms200t (new old stock)
  9. Having served in the forces and prison service before coming into this game, I have seen banter/bullying at it's worst and best. As someone who enjoy's Banter at work (not when your up a tree working) It makes the day go faster. However that said it needs to be monitored to make sure it does not become bullying if it does then the person/persons doing it need a quiet word ALONE away from the other guys/girls and some ground rules put in place by the team leader. the thing about banter is that it all comes down to how thick skinned the team around you are (in the army if someone was calling you every type of tosser under the sun he was your best mate) so it comes down to personal perception I.E. is it banter or bullying the person it's happening to can only answer that. as some can take it some can give it but not take it. If you can see it having a bad effect on someone then it needs to be addressed first by talks one to one then if needed as a team IMHO.
  10. Yorkshireman I think I love you, lol you get what I mean if there was a qualification via NPTC/CITY&GUILDS for how a team works together then I would get my team and myself to do it as an APPROVED QUALIIFACATION and I think as an assessor yourself maybe you could look into this, I am a sole trader with two guys working with me (who have their nptc/city&guilds tickets) and are both self employed we work well together H&S is always at the front of my mind so everyone go's home at the end of the day in one piece I don't need to work ( I work because I WANT to work) so I never feel the need to rush jobs or take risks/shortcuts.in answer to your question = it was not an arboricultural association member = NO CONTRACT.
  11. I am always happy to give any customer the names and phone numbers of any of my customers who want to know, if they where happy with the finished work, I really just cannot get my head around why I need a company not an approved government bodies approval
  12. Paul I agree with you 100% that just because you have earned the BASIC qualifications We still have a lot to learn and every day is a school day in this job. but WHY do I need someone who is NOT an NPTC/CITY&GUILDS ASSESSOR to re assess me, H&S I cover by trying to keep up with office work I have a wife who does the books/record keeping, should this not be enough without having to be arboricultural association approved IMHO.
  13. But I think your missing my point, WHO appointed them as the law to what good practice is, my point really is anyone could create a website lets call it "british arboricultural association" and create an approved list of contractors and make up certificates for people who IN THERE OPINON are competent .However WE HAVE ALREADY PROVED we are capable of doing the job to the required (by law) standard by going and taking our city&guilds
  14. Ok here is my question who is a member of the arboricultural association and why? It seem's to me that to go to a company to be assessed after going via NPTC/ CITY&GUILDS is paying out TWICE after already passing your qualifications to approved standards, are our I.D. cards not for the purpose of showing that we have attained these qualifications to the required standard. It just seems to me that to pay out a yearly subscription to use there approved contractor logo, and be on there LIST, to be assessed again (taking time out from paying work) is odd, we have PROVED by taking our courses that we can do the work to BS3998 showing we are capable to work at safely, and to meet current HSE. I ask this these questions because I have just had a contract turned down because I am not in the arboricultural association.

  18. went to take down a couple of small trees around a pond as the roots were going into the liner and ended up emptying the pond and cleaning it out 120 thousand gallons with a 10 foot island in the middle 3 days to do it nice weather and we had fun doing it, mate went to clean himself off in the river next to the garden in his waders bent down and his waders filled with water, wish I had my camera as it was a you've been framed moment.Made a nice change from tree work once you got used to the smell of the crap in the bottom
  19. Jensen A530 Wood Chipper | eBay so what do people think of these machines, price seems fair
  20. that sounds like you have had one and had problems with it, was it that bad?
  21. well you have given me options so far to think about, got to say I have never done HP always saved for stuff and then gone and got it, I think I have just got used to using tracked as they are the only type I have used but a tow behind would do the jobs I need to do so will look into them also. Has anyone used a Nixon forest chipper? Nixon Forest King Heavy Duty Diesel Powered Self Propelled Wood Chipper | eBay
  22. cheers for that will look them up
  23. there is no more money, but thanks
  24. OK guys and girls I am at the stage of buying a chipper, so what do you use are they good (pros and cons) I have only used jensens so far and like them. I prefer tracked chippers budget is about £9000 so what do you all recommend.
