  1. No.1 looks like Kauri?
  2. Frosties packet as a gasket for carb on an AX GT, outlasted the bodywork! You could just see Tony poking his head out of the side Mole grips as a temporary clutch lever on an old Yam DT. The occasional cordless drill/spanner/ratchet driver/rock/boot etc as a hammer...
  3. Exactly the same here, 18 months, though I hammered them quite hard and wore them for everything as they are sooo comfy.
  4. Nice one squire :-) CS30 was the hardest (most info to take in) I found. 38 and 39 are really good fun and alot more practical though it could be because I went with a private training company for these (Lowe Maintenance Training) rather than the college that I did 30/31 with. Well done and best of luck.
  5. Our first home post marriage. Converted 52ft Scottish trawler. Not very arb I know but it's made of wood Larch planks on Oak frames, old school...

Arbtalk rocks thanks guys. Re sunlight the hall had full length windows south facing and a really high ceiling so that would tie in. Will sand a bit down tomorrow (with mask and gloves on) and feel for "oilyness"! Off to google Iroko to get some background
  8. Clicking upload usually helps...
  9. Know you guys like to see some pics, these were taken by the client, not bad going I thought.
  10. Semi relevant question here... I was looking at a goosed HC the other day, looked similar but bark in many places peeling, some missing all together, big (big) cracks all over and F.velupites all up the main stem, I was thinking surely BC when on the phone but when I went to look there was no evidence of associated gooey black mess anywhere, is there a chance that its been in, done its thing and the goo has washed off at a later date? Sorry if that's a daft question, still learning...

For my learning slack what characteristics would rule beech out? Very interested in the specifics. Does it just not look right or is it something in particular about beech grain? Cheers :-)

Thinking on the same lines there, assuming it was the assembly/exam hall as the gym was next door and was a different wood for sure. Would have had a go at the gym floor as well but ran out of time, wasn't the easiest job getting it up without wrecking it!

One for Iroko then! That sounds pretty good to me, though the pics with the stamping on is of the underside, would it not be darker due to being in the dark or does it not work like that? Cheers

Hoping Steve is going to say wow its definitely Muhuhu just because it will sound great when I tell people.... Beech/Iroko would still be a result though! Anyone a floor laying expert by the way as I think this could be a bit of a baptism of fire...

Yep I walked right into that one... Fair play.
  21. Bit of a long shot but.... Spent the day lifting the floor from a school exam hall, anyone got any bright ideas what it might be? Will sand a bit up and take a close up but any gut reactions?
