  1. Hi Tom, no I haven't as yet! Yes I think they have had a heap of applicants, I'm struggling to find the time myself!

  2. We are looking for somebody with a harvester to potentially help with a large woodland thinning between 200- 500mm. If anybody is interested please contact with rates. Thanks
  3. Farmer Ben, what price did you agree for that set up?
  4. Hire a breaker drill and/or a diamond cutter, (Hilti etc,) mash up the stone with the breaker and a cut the stump with old bars and chains. Watch out for snapping your chains though! Could try to burn out the stump?
  5. Thanks NI - an interesting debate!
  6. Sold. steel it is! Jon - Where did you purchase the cable from?
  7. The Plasma is a fair bit cheaper than the Dyneema, but may switch to steel for the price- would the steel cable run through a butterfly pulley alright?
  8. Think I may switch to steel to save on the pocket
  9. So what's the pros for steel?
  10. I didn't know steel cable was that much cheaper! Its just that rope is what we are used to - its light, easy to run around with, easy on the hands, and safer if it snaps i guess! And it has a higher breaking strain by diameter to steel. but now just realised its 10 x the price!
  11. Hi all, we're having to replace the rope on a Norse skidding winch, does anybody know what to replace it with?! We've looked at the Marlow Dyneema rope but it is super expensive! Is there decent alternatives? and I'm not sure what diameter we need to get, the one that being replaced looks about 8mm, we want to get 100m length of it so the price soon adds up! Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!
  12. Thanks very much Ciaran, sorry for the late reply. I've been thinking i may just try and get the level 2 and the RFS for now as its been recommended by so many people, and it doesn't take as long!! I've heard a few stories about KH as well, bit of a shame as its my nearest college! Cheers
  13. Hi people, i've read loads of posts on here regarding training and searching google for ages trying to find colleges etc. In the North of England (NE, NW) that offer the ABC Level 2 Certificate in Arboriculture, and I can't find one, does anybody know where you can study this?? I really want to get my RFS cert, I hold the relavent NPTC certs, just have a do a few of the AO series, but need to get the ABC theory cert. Or does nybody know of anywhere that offers intensive courses? I suppose I could travel further afield if it was a week now and again. I work full time so can only do like one day a week or perhaps a week off here and there if intensive.. Any help would be much appreciated.
  14. Yes I think your right it is on an alder, thanks!
  15. It looks a little like Heterobasidion annosum, but I am not sure that it is, it is growing on a dead Sycamore.
  16. Hi, I am trying to find places that I can study aboriculture in more detail. I have my cs courses but need to study more of the science stuff as I want to head towards doing surveys etc. and also just to better my knowledge. I've looked at the ABC awards level 2 and 4 and I would probably do fine starting at level 4, I've been told a lot about the RFS cert, but i'm really not sure which course I need to do or where for that matter, as I can't seem to find any courses in the North of England. I work full time so evenings would be best, but could take a day off if needs be, alternatively if there are any courses that run full time for say a month or two, I could potentially go and study elsewhere in the country. Any help would be appreciated about which courses are best to do, and any advice on where is best to go!? Many thanks
