  1. Not seen any Willow like that but have taken down 2 Birches probably similar age this spring that have done exactly the same thing leaves just about emerge then died. Also saw a ornamental Cherry last week that appears to have done the same. I assumed it may be something to do with the particularly dry April and persistent frosts into May although doesn't make sense for your Willow by the pond.

Yep, i'm in Sweden, and have stopped ordering/purchasing from the UK until everyone's up to speed.

My accountant did go through it all with me, but i zoned out tbh, plenty of EU suppliers to choose from.

As i badly remember, the Uk's now out of Europe, so its like trading with the states, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes its 0% duty, sometimes not. super important to declare everything properly for book-keeping though. plus there was something about it being my, the consumer, responsibility to pay the correct customs charges, edit, maybe it was the transport firms responsibility to collect the customs charges, either way, not the retailers.

Shipping will take longer due to more paperwork at customs, transport costs have nearly tripled, even the UK supplier thought it outrageous.

A friend who works in a shop says its been a lot more hassle after brexit, even the simplest of letters/birthday cards now needs a customs declaration, and delivery times have gone from a few days to a few weeks (unsure how much Covid has contributed to that though)

I'm probably being pedantic but the UK is out of the EU not Europe. It might seem a trivial point to some but it is not. One is geographical the other political. Even my girlfriend who voted remain and works in clinical trials with EU countries gets wound up by this.

I had a pair of Haix Protector Extremes that the soles started to crumble apart on in a matter of weeks, they looked like I had been standing in embers.

They asked me to take a picture of the tongue with the manufacturing code. I expected them to ask for them back but they just issued a new pair, it worked out well as I ordered the replacements a half size smaller and kept the others for general workshop work.

Just tuck the tongues inside the boot and take the photo, job done.

Thanks for that. Think that's a good plan. Although knowing my luck they'll probably read this!

  4. Hi everyone,

I bought a pair haix protector ultra at the end of January and the sole has started to come off from the toe already. So I contacted the supplier and they were quite helpful and have organised a replacement pair to be sent out for free but they want me to take a picture of the boots after I have cut the tongue out of the old pair.

Has anyone been asked to do this before?

It seems a terrible waste of the old boots as I should think there is a couple months left in them before they see the bin.

    Thanks

I’m not exactly the Jeff Bezos of the arb world, but here’s what I’d be tempted to do.

    Arrange to meet on site.

    Ask them to stand back.

Hit the top of the mailbox with a splitting maul, full bore.

Agree that it’s definitely bolloxed now.

Throw a £50 note on the floor.

    Walk away smiling.

Literally made me laugh out loud

  6. Hi there,

I have a 2016 Timberwolf 125 which only has 420 hours on it but for the last few months the battery has been losing charge.

I've been recharging the battery every few weeks but finally got round to testing it. The battery has a charge of 12.8v and doesn't go up to 14 or more when running so i checked the alternator and that was the same. Would that mean the alternator is not working?

Has anyone had this problem before and if so any remedy other than buying a new alternator as it's nearly £200 and seems far too new to have this problem really.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Duncan

  7. 2nd for the conventional straw bales. I've used 2 together in a 2 dumpy bags and ratchet strapped them together to stop them splitting and spilling out. Used chip in a bag too but found it needs to be adjusted after every log and not as confident it absorbs as well as the straw.

  8. I used 18mm marine ply about £70 a sheet lasts longer and capped the edges with some aluminium channel to protect the ply from coming apart 1inch by 1inch by 1/8inch thick leaves a gap that slots nicely over 18mm ply. Got it from aluminium warehouse at about £50 which if it helps make the boards last another year is good and can be used again on the next set of boards I put on when these are trashed.

  9. Hi all,

Hiring a chipper from a local tree surgeon and I need to insure it for the week. Rang my insurance who I have PLI and tools insured with but they said they wouldn't insure a machine I don't own unless it was a hired machine from a registered hire company. Anyone insured something like this before and if so how?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks

I looked at that, it seems decent but I was slightly put off by the large spikes/teeth cut into the backing plate, which would mean there’s absolutely no chance of using it on a tree that wasn’t being removed?

The p500 doesn't have spikes on the back it has 4 rubber pads. I've had it for a few years now and well happy with it.

  11. I used to work for someone who had a heavy duty chain welded to the draw bar on the chipper and then a padlock on the other end which was obviously locked to the van on the tow bar. It was just the right length  long enough so it could be locked on full time whilst towing and had enough slack for turning and reversing it at tight angles.
