Most likely drought related , either purely lack of water , or conditions favour a disease of some sort , what type of soils in this area ??? Is this on mature trees only or all age trees ???
Not drought related .
Has been going on for too long and too widespread across county. Also, not all trees in stands affected and trees dying year on year .
Affecting Scots of all ages

Hello again, last year I asked for thoughts or experiences on Scots Pine die back.
There was a varied scale of opinion .We undertook some heavy felling of browned or dead specimens as it was thought that Red Band Needle Blight might be responsible .
Not even a year later the wood is still being decimated as are the local garden and copses here in Warwickshire .
I’m just wondering whether anyone has any further input as they are dying EVERYWHERE here , woods, gardens , roadside ….anywhere and everywhere .
it far more rapid and impactful than Ash die back currently but that is inevitably starting to sweep across the county also.I have attached some photos from today . The needles don’t to my eye look typically like Red Band but the occasional odd one does .
Any thoughts or avenues to pursue would be greatly appreciated .
I’m usually pretty good with pests and diseases but this one is stumping me .It’s genuinely a terrible swathe of destruction whatever it is ☹️

Aqua Fell, thank you, I’ve been looking for these for ages, I used to wear them, they are the best boots I wore for climbing, grounding and dog walking, so comfy, I’ve just ordered a pair for £135. I don’t really like the newer (now old) style of boot, chunky and heavy, so I’m ditching my Scafell lites for these!!
Thanks again Treerover 👍
My pleasure my friend.
I genuinely think if more folk ditched the Vibram soled boots and tried alternative soles they’d wonder what on Earth they were thinking of , especially for climbing -

Surely that one is compliant? It's a 3 way ISC snap, not one of those old US steel ones.
They don't last forever, and given the right whack will stick open, but that's another story.
Nothing lasts forever in the literal sense but the shorter wire strop I have has stood many trees worth over the 20 odd years it’s been in service…..so I’d say that’s pretty robust . Neither has it ever stayed open once, unlike most twist gates that have on occasion .
And those lighter 3 way versions on the Stein like you say, are not that robust from my limited experience of them . -

Komet Miller Reglex Machoire Wire Core Flipline
SKYLANDEQUIPMENT.COM
Easy to use, reinforced wire core work positioning lanyard with stainless steel jaw type length...Skyland are out of stock but might be able to get you one in, if your pockets are deep enough
Cheers Joe, good lead . Thank you

I still use a two way similar to that snap lock but on rope rather that steel core.
The ISC ones are 3 way but very similar configuration and operation to the one in your picture. Honey Bros sell them and they do them on steel. The would be a good bet for you.
Personally I don't like the steel ones but thats just choice. Ive got one thats been used about 3 times and stuffed back in a kit bag forever more. I think thats a 2 way but cant remember for sure.
They last forever especially when being whacked round gnarly trunks repeatedly

ART positioner can be used for wire core but you have to change the cam, they are cheap and honeybros sell them
Why is it you have to change the cam ? I have one on a wire core but not sure that I changed the cam …..oops 🤷🏼♂️

I do like the idea of the rope locking brake on the LD2 so you don’t have that anxious moment of watching your groundy taking off the wraps off the capstan on the GRCS once you’ve winched up a piece. Kind of the Achilles heel in an otherwise great bit of kit.

Cousin atrax 11.6mm absolutely flies through zigzag especially with art ropeguide, it self tends almost immediately, i think buxtons are usually the best for it
Seconded ✊🏻 and really resistant to getting wet. A superb rope all round

Same as above. Terrible rope . Cousin Trestec Atrax is so much better . Night and day improvements personally and through the Zig Zag it flies

I was working in the neighbouring garden to another arborist who was reducing an apple tree on 2 ropes . Took him all day !! I couldn’t help but laugh to be honest

Yes I have. Stunning timber, slightly iridescent when polished. I think Steve @se7enthdevil worked some of it. Unfortunately he doesn't get on here very often.
If you can persuade the owner to part with it please do; if it was local to me (I have no idea where you are) I could exchange it for real firewood
It's now Styphnolobium btw to be pedantic. As with so many plants it got bored with being called the same thing for donkey's years so changed names
Ahh very interesting , thank you.
The wood is in Warwickshire. I’ll most likely grab half a dozen pieces anyway , in case I ever meet a Woodturner with a swap or with a lawn I’ve just bombed !! -

Be interesting in seeing if you do actually get more than pennies for it. Turners and Carvers always want it for next to nothing and actually seem to feel like they are doing you a favour if they take it off your hands.
Seems a shame that the tree owner will not get to keep his own tree for firewood though.
No I’d swap it for Ash if it was worth anything .
….and yes as always , thus far been offered £30 for 18 x large lumps !!! No thanks 😂

Has anyone ever successfully sold any Sophora japonica or Pagoda Tree wood for turning or carving.
We’ve just had to take down a nice one in perfect health (don’t ask 🤬) and the guy wants it for logs !
Seems such a huge shame but it’s that heavy , I ain’t lumping it out for buttons .Below is an example , largest section 20” …..a hernia giver for sure

How does he find the grip with the Vibram sole ?
I just do not get on with Vibram soles apart from on my La Sportivas, but they are too soft to stand in tight forks .
These do look like a nicely designed boot though . Very temptedSo bought a pair of the Fitwells…..terrible for me. The sole is SO stiff , the laces ping of the tongue as the eyelets are too close to the top and the Vibram soul, as usual, slippy as a snowman’s nut end in the wet.
Had to sell them .
The hunt goes on 😫 -
Hi everyone.
Since now I was just a silent reader. I am Oliver and climb in Austria. Since November with the Roperunner Pro and although there are lot of things to be aware of with this machine I'm really happy with it.
Last week we had a resque aireal training day, so the question came up what is the recommendation of notch about using the RRPro in a situation like this.
I was so disappointed by the communication with them so I want to share that.
Notch (skipped the name) :
"Hello Oliver,
Check out some of the youtube videos on using the rope runner pro in rescue situations. I think you will see that these videos provide you with plenty of information.
Best,..."Me:
"OK... Are there no producers recommendations?
I allready searched on YouTube. Du you have some links?"Notch:
"I do not have specific links. I searched under rope runner pro rescue and came up with tons of videos.
Best,... "I feel well supported...
Have a good climbing week
Oliver
This does seem like quite a laid back response at best…..bordering on indifferent and/or un professional .
I’m with you Oliver, customer service and support is all part of ‘the brand ‘

That’s a beauty, being a total clueless chump about milling but very much an envious fan of those that can…..would oxalic acid remove stains such as this ?
Posts like yours make me want to learn how to mill Sir- 1

Try Arbtrader on here mate.
Is that for plant or climbing kit too Mark ?
I have yet another pair of almost new boots I don’t get on with and have to sell [emoji849]
