I'm not claiming to be a pro, I'm simply trying to gather other people's experience.
The saw did pinch a few times yes.
What exactly drives you on this noble quest Luke ……? Sorry….Pete ?
Have you considered a small wooden spinning round of Oak floating around your head and trying to hit it with a full revs Husky 550 ?
Might be just your thing ….[emoji85]
You could learn a lot so you could -
Clearly, but tell us about your experiences and we can explain and enlarge, open the debate, we’re not just a free resource that’ll do your research for you.
You're after stuff from us but not contributing anything yourself, what were you doing with the saw? Did you notice anything that made you think ‘that seems dangerous’
Did you get any training?
Quid pro quo Pete as Hannibal said
Oh this is brilliant 🤩 -
Definately Stubby, its a killer mate, cant sleep, taking ibuprofen like smarties and been on tramadol for the last 8 years with it,but the worst is the torn bicep muscle, its took the pain up another level
Tramadol for 8 years !!!!!!!!
Shit the bed mate. You’re swimming against the tide .
Seriously . My better half is a nurse .
In no way do I mean this in any way condescendingly …….we all like to think we’ll be the last Sargent on the beech with a vickers gun, heading off the nazi pain invasion ……but sometimes you just have to look at what cards you can afford to play.
You’re not out of the loop by any stretch my friend……just recalculate your position and your options .
It’s totally possible…..and who knows…..you might even be glad of the restructure in your life and how you go about things ?
Stay positive but LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.
8 years on heavy pain relief is wayyy too much in my very very humble but daily daily achey opinion [emoji1307]
How old are you if you don’t mind me asking Gary ?- 2

Ouch jeez yours sounds pretty shitty.
I’m currently under the consultant for both shoulders (scan on each, cortisone in one so far, with offer of keyhole surgery to worn socket etc.)
The first thing I did do though …..and you’ll not possibly find this very useful …..I stopped hedge trimming !!
Any trimming jobs I now delegate and just do the raking and clearing , at least this way I can still manage to work around the intense pain that hedge trimming aggravated it with and carry on climbing, which seems to aggravate it less .
Like I said though , yours sounds a lot worse . I can’t see how you’re going to get repaired quickly unless you take some step back action and give the injury a rest , even if it means taking a financial hit and bringing in a more competent subby to help than you may currently have at your disposal ? Obviously I don’t know your set up.
All I experienced and continue to experience is when shoulders go wrong, Christ do they take a bloody long time to mend [emoji30]
I wish you luck Gary, but I think you’re going to have to look after number 1 here mate if you’re to stand any chance of recovery [emoji173]️🩹- 1

I’m confused as to how the spec can be discretionary when it will have gone through planning , which surely would have necessitated a specific and accurate level of works ?

If Stratford isn't too far get in touch with matt Brooker at Treesense
Another vote for Treesense. Great bloke and incredibly up to the minute with current best practice . -
I am always willing to listen to others, of course i am and i have learnt LOADS from you all.. Everyone on here is hugely experienced compared to me, BUT if people start to get abusive, posting "Yer full of shit" type comments, then i will reply in kind..
Still, no harm done, we all say silly things, even me!!
john..
I think the points being made are that if, by your own admission, you have scant experience or knowledge, which certainly comes across in your replies , then it is most likely best to leave GIVING advice to those who have done more than educate themselves watching You Tube and existing on forums .

You’ll get the feel of it when you’re in your harness as you’ll not be on full weight against it using it as a flip line .
More importantly, if you’ve still got the pin /ball indent locking mechanism securing the through bolt then I’d REALLY recommend you swap that for a high tensile bolt and nylock .
It concerns me slightly that people sometimes use life support equipment that they don’t seem conversant with .
That said, at least in your circs you’ve asked a question …. -

When you say RPA, do you mean CA?
The normal situation is, any works implicit or explicit in the approved application don't need separate notification. It is also very common for permission conditions to say no trees are to be touched during development.
If it's a CA and they removals are not mandated by the planning permission, the way forward is to see if the permission conditions contain an approval mechanism for additional tree works. If so, use that. If not, it's normal CA rules.
Best to document for client protection whether the tree condition is wholly or partly due to the works that have taken place around them. Remember, if it's a CA you don't have to give a reason for the works, but it sure as heck helps if you volunteer them when you notify.
Thank you for your detailed reply.
The trees are definitely not in a CA but were a condition of granting an appeal to build the garage as they screened the proposed development.
Now the building is up, the trees have been found to be heavily flawed and need removing .
There is not much to recommend them it has to be said and the developer is planting a tall Laurel hedge to screen the car port
The reason I refer to the RPA is that it covered the ground where the Ash trees are located, and the appeal condition specifically says no vegetation to be removed within the RPA ……but they hadn’t noticed the trees flaws
-
One thing I would do is check all the plans and any landscape drawings or reports submitted as part of the planning process. If these trees are mentioned anywhere as being retained then to remove them would essentially be going against any planning consent.
Interesting one with the Rpa and not sure if the 5 day rule would apply here. If your local tree officer is as helpful as mine I'd suggest a quick email to clarify.
Thank you for your suggestions Pete. -
Sorry, does anyone know or know where I can find the list of affected serial numbers?
And if my zigzag is within the range of serial numbers how can I get my money back because my has been slipping almost since I bought it.
Thanks
…..and yes you can get a refund if it is within the serial numbers specified .

Unusually, within weeks of my last totally separate solicitation from the greater minds, I find myself once again in need of some advice, all be it hopefully rather more straightorward….
I have a customer who is on the final stages of completion of their development ie build completed, paving done, all perimeter walls in situ .
It has come to light that 3 medium sized trees not individually protected but within the RPA have been found to have major structural defects . Extensive basal cavities to one, Inonotus present to a large extent low down on another (Ash) and another showing significant die back throughout crown on the other.
My question is this, can we remove these trees without requiring consent?
Or, do I need to give notice to the planning officer who sanctioned the development based on the pre requisite of the RPA ?
Ultimately there is absolutely no question that these trees are unsustainable due to their condition, but it is whether we might be in breech of any planning caveats should we not make any pertinent parties known of our intent .
It does not lay within a conservation area .
Can we remove these on a 5 day notice which I realise normally is relevant to trees within a conservation area or do we even need to do that , given the RPA has been adhered to throughout the build ?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated [emoji847]

UPDATE:-
We did manage to take the tree down on day 43 of the 42 BUT the TO still e mailed the client in the morning to ascertain his intentions .
I have to say I don’t think we’ve ever rigged a tree down so quickly !!
My client returned his email at 13.00 (by which time we’d taken the crown off….see video) to state his intention of carrying out proposed works. At 15.00 hrs the TO replied asking why he had done this before the required time of notice had expired !! 🤦🏼♂️(despite it being the day after)
By the time I returned home at approx 17.00 the planning portal listed “no objections” !
Thank you to everyone for your input, it has been a very interesting learning curve . [emoji1307]

It’s a bit of a tangent - but still makes me smile...
Had a 5 day exemption on a TPO’d tree - stuck it in, checked it had been received, checked again day 5 to see if TO had responded - tumbleweed.
It was probably around day 8 (the Monday following expiration of 5 days on the Friday) when we were on task that the phone rang.
It was the TO saying he was nearby and asking if I had a contact number and address for the homeowner.
My reply “... can you hear chainsaws? Just follow that noise...!”
A brief ‘discussion’ ensued whereby he sought to challenge the validity of the exemption but that was easily batted off as subjective.
This is also my concern, is that the TO turns up tomorrow mid morning whilst the tree is being removed .
What then ?
On the planning notes it details 03/11 as target date for determination, and yet this is 6 weeks and 2 days from the registered valid date ?
What are they able to do by this point in proceedings ? -
So as we’re up to the line on the 6 weeks and want to remove the tree straight away……the validation date is Wednesday 22nd September, does this mean we are ok to fell it on Wednesday 03rd November or do we have to wait until Thursday 04th , which in my book is 6 weeks and 1 day ?
