  1. I agree with Aardvark, I've had a Clearview Vision 500 for 5 years now, no problems at all, still on the same rope seal. I myself was torn between cast iron and steel, that was until I took a trip to Clearview house in Ludlow, quite impressive set up there. At the end of the day, it's down to preference of style, size, colour, cost etc, but there isn't any concerns over the quality of the steel that Clearview use in manufacturing, plus they're manufactured in Shropshire-no Chinese rubbish!!! There is a video on the Clearview website showing how to light the stoves. The stove they used for the video is in the showroom and is 20 years old and has been lit 5 days a week for 50 weeks every year-say no more really. Balesy
  2. Hey Treequip, that's a nice bit of kit you've put together there mate. Did you work off any plans or sizes, or was it a case of suck it and see? I might try making one of them, if you do have any plans, I would be grateful if you would share them with me.
  3. Hi Scott, I'm interested in taking some as well, if you could pm his number to me. Many thanks Balesy
  4. Hi guys, Today I dropped a log on my chainsaw, resulting in the handlebar breaking where it connects underneath. I've got the MS181, has anyone changed one of these? If so, any advice would be appreciated, it's mainly the trigger end that I'm unsure of. Cheers Balesy
  5. OMG, only just read this. Sad news indeed, thoughts to his family.
  6. Bjam, I work in the Oil and Gas industry, at present I'm over in Angola, West Africa. I work 28 days on, 28 days off and I'm due back to the UK on 8th January, looking forward to getting home.
  7. I'm working all day till 6pm, probably half day on Christmas Day, then back to work Boxing Day. Few pints Christmas Eve though, so not too bad.
  8. Thanks for the feedback guys. I got the 180 to ease myself into it really, think I've decided on the side of caution really. To be honest I haven't used it yet, it got delivered about two weeks ago, but I work abroad and I'm not home till 8th January. Do you think my 6T splitter is powerful enough for beech? Also got to mention that I'm quite impressed by my Clearview stove, dearer than most other makes but probably better than most, mind you the liner and fitting cost more than the stove. Has anybody had any wood from Clearview? I went to Dinham House in Ludlow about a month ago, they've got stacks of ash outside, but it seems a tad expensive.
  9. Hi guys, Just thought I'd drop a line and say hello to all on the site. I'm quite new to all this wood lark, but it's sort of got a grip of me. I bought a wood burner in September and have been obsessed by wood ever since, my wife just shakes her head. Do I need hospital treatment or does everyone go through this stage lol? Anyway, I've been getting wood from various sources for this winter, paying about £45 per cubic metre for hardwood. But for next year I've sort of put a plan together, once a week I go across to the local nature reserve and help the Ranger out, he in return lets me take all the wood I need. Last week I heard chainsaws next door, lo and behold they were cutting a huge beech tree down, guess what, yes I got the lot for nothing, just need to split it. Which leads me on to that I've bought a Stihl 180 and a 6ton wood splitter, I think they shoud be ok for a beginner. Any thoughts? I even knocked together a wood shed from a load of pallets, actually looks ok, although it's full now. Rambling on now so I'll sign out.
