hi all, i am available to work anywhere within 50 miles of Stratford on Avon. As well as in the Hereford area and Tiverton (devon) area if there is a few days work. I have cs30/31 and a cscs card, i also have done my cs38 training but not yet taken the assessment. I have a Land Rover 109 pick up but she does drink a bit of fuel and sound like a lancaster bomber so i prefer not to use her unless necessary and the diesel is covered. Will work elsewhere if digs are provided and there are a few days work. Regards Jack Mee

clear felling valley, what to charge?
xcjack replied to xcjack's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
sorry guys, i share my computer with a journalist so havent been able to get on here much since starting the thread. thatnks for all of the advice, will take it all into account (even the advice saying dont put yourself through the stress of a job this big on your first go). All of the ground is too steep for a harvester but i can winch i have all the equipment i will need inc. winches, tractors, trailors, chainsaws, a jcb 360 and a telehandler. i am still waiting on the client to return from a holiday to find out the density but from memory it seems like a well managed woodland and certainly isnt sparsely covered regards Jack -
hi all, I have been asked if i can clear fell 500 acres of larch (predominantly). The ground is too steep for heavy machiones over most of the area and i will need to winch all of the timber to a suitable place on the site. I have never before quoted a felling job of my own and dont have a clue what to quote. please help. would also be interested on your views as to how long it will take and how many people i should take on and any advice. regards jack

if u want a splitter who doesnt care much about bees im happy to do some splitting so long as theres a few days work and they are bees not wasps or hornets
-
i have an old land rover, if you want reliability and comfort land rover defenders arn't the best choice but they have plenty of character. i would go for the new toyota hilux or the ford ranger, possibly a mitsu l200 but the pre 2004 engine has a habit of self destructing

go to a diy store and get a red light and some bee/ wasp killer foam or powder. at night go and spray the killer down the hole. only use a red light because bees and wasps cant see red ( sounds odd but always works with me) not as effective when the nest is underground but a few nights running should do it

Have worked with Mark a couple of times, good, hard worker, and easy to get on with. And very patient.
