Hi Doobin

Hi,

I've noticed that a clutter free desktop helps, I read a few years ago about it but cant recall exactly why. It also assists re-start time but TBH I dont often reboot my MacBook, I just shut the lid as it starts near instantly from sleep.

Some things that may impact performance:

Too many programs start on start-up

large number of e-mails in mailbox, some people hoard them all!

large number of browser add ons if you use Firefox

lots of smart playlists in iTunes

HDD nearly full,

To improve speed:

flushing caches with Onyx - about once a year Download OnyX for Mac - Maintenance and optimization tool. MacUpdate.com

More memory I got 16Gb from Crucial, my MBP dosnt officially support it but it goes like a train.

Fit larger capacity HDD or SSD if affordable = M550 or Samsung 840Pro good ones

I have de-fragged my Macs but, TBH its marginal, I suspect improvement is proportional to the amount of data on the disk

Noel
