  1. Get on Tommer, yeah ive had several closures over the years costing around £800 as you said. Seems a bit steep i agree but highways once told me figure was in fact for "renting " the closed section for the day?! so i guess you could hold a party or use it as a race track for the day if you wished? prob not though! A farmer once told me an old law says you can block/hold up traffic for upto 20 mins if you need to unload/load or carry out emergency work. ive done this a few times and got away with it but you gotta get ur arse in gear lol. Did any of your trees get washed away in meva then!lol.
  2. I use 3 strand with the 3 knot system and both ends of the rope Nah but thats how i started must be 15 years ago! Just use main line to suit tree height 50m,25m or 15m with prussik loops off main D and flipline on sides when spiking/cutting (wire core of course) branch walks sometimes use long splittails and slings for repos. Keep it simple i say. oh and spikes wherever i can get away with it!!
  3. now you just have to work in the rain newboy!
  4. Well older anyway!
  5. Apart from the odd fence panel and cracking pavings with chogs, the worse thin g that has happened to me (when i was young and over keen!) was whilst lowering off a massive (far too big) dead limb on a radiata which snapped in two on hitting the main stem sending a large section through the lounge window of a moblie home onto the sofa! oh and i also once felled myself out of a leylandii hedge, landed on my shoulder which still gives me problems. i like to think im a bit older and wiser now:laugh1:
  6. he he skyhuck we call those "while your here could you just..." 'and then and then and then an then an then an then..' ref: film ' Dude wheres my car' i hate that but nearly always give in !
  7. OPPS! I defo would have called to confirm a few days before. maybe if you were a gardener/lawnmowerist they'd exspect you to jus turn up but with trees (as jobs tend to be one offs anyway) they may have been felled or the client even moved lol! Hope the dnt give you anymore grief mate id just leave it.
  8. I passed thst atleast a thousand years ago! Still remember the buzz thou! what kinda name is flob anyway? Anyway an little tip for you zzzzzzz remember your boss knows best! welll done jim!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Echo eh, any deals around?
  10. hi all My old HT101 polesaw is nearly a gonner, had at least 2 new shafts and it never did oil properly. What pruner would you reccommed, we only use it for quick crown lifts here and there or when im feeling a bit lazy sometimes!!
  11. I spent at least the first five five years of my climbing career climbing without spikes, leaving pegs, stubs ect as i went but borrowed a mates set oneday and never looked back! A dismantle becomes a breeze with them but remember you shouldnt use for a reduction ect or in a TPO tree! Sometimes i get a groundsman to send them up once i reach the canopy. oh and be carefull not to spike urself i have holes in my boots/inside leg often!! Just sharpen with a flat file when they start to round off and dnt walk around with them on the ground trying to look cool like some guys do he he!
