  1. Thankyou for the turning elm, arrived this morning and looks good. I am still chasing about the big log, they have been chasing the client today so hopefully i'll be able to confirm tomorrow/monday
  2. I haven't really seen turkey oak timber before. Has anyone got a photo? Google didn't yield any pictures. Thanks
  3. Thankyou, sorry missed your response for a few days but will give him a ring.
  4. Willing to take whole logs and get multiple pieces out of them if that makes it more attractive.
  5. After major delay I am getting on with this again now and have the money ready to buy anything of interest. Got a big ash burr, oak and walnut. looking for a variety of timbers particularly burry or pippy stuff. Going to turn alot of it into stools around 30-35cm diameter. Could include bark patches if necessary. Travel around alot but if you have something particularly interesting will get it collected by a pallet firm. Preferance for more decorative woods. Thanks, James
  6. Does anyone offer or know of somone that would be willing to kiln dry wood for me in this area (Oxfordshire or if necessary neighbouring counties) generally speaking 2'' or 3'', normally oak, up to 5000mm long, 800mm + wide. At the moment I have two 3700mm by 1100mm by 80mm oak boards that have been air dried for 4 years that I want to go in for just a few weeks. Need to find someone as soon as possible. Thanks,
  7. Would be interested in any other big burrs if anyone has one/some. Also longer term would like to buy a crotch, ideally walnut, 2ft before the crotch 6ft after on one of the forks and 4ft on the other, minimum 20" wide. It has to be just right but if anyone is going to take one down this year let me know, perhaps send me some pics.
  8. Sorry, not been paying attention and completely missed your posts. Would be interested to see some photos. I'll PM my email address to you. How come nobody wants to mill it? Too big for there mills or does it have a metal post in the middle of it? If you could send some dimensions that would be great too. I've probably got someone to mill it so could sell as is if you wanted. Still looking for anything unusual. In desperately need of something pippy/burr at least 2.5m long and not too fussy about the width in kiln dried at the moment enough to go 1.2m wide total, so if anyone has anything then get in touch.
  9. I have a table that I am making and need to thickness the 64cm wide timber from 80mm to 65mm. Trouble is I cant find anyone with a planer thicknesser big enough to deal with it. Has anyone got one capable? I am based in Kent but tend to be driving around a fair bit so anything broadly in the southeast. Thanks
  10. Has anyone got anything new?, I am a bit short of wood to use at the moment. In particular need to find some oak (air dried/kiln dried) that will yield square edge slabs 900mm + by 2400mm +. Also generally on the look out for anything interesting in single slab or bookmatched pairs if particularly unusual. Might have thought of a way to use that black pop Rob if you still have it? And PM'd JPH re the burr elm if still around.
  11. Would be interested, have sent you a PM
  12. They have dropped away now I am afraid and I haven't heard back from them. I think they got a bit worried when I told them the ball park that the logs would weigh and asked how they planned on getting them in place. Would have been an interesting job though.
  13. Ashman, moving at the moment and so between, Ashford Kent and Oxford. I have to travel quite a lot for work so if your England or wales chances are I'll be reasonably close at some point. Peter, sounds good. Has the walnut got much colour? How much we talking roughly? Or send me a message if you prefer. I've been offered cherry and sycamore today also, so looks like I have already got those sorted.
  14. For a trade show I am doing later in the year I want to put together a set of 20 seating cubes to go around a 5m table I am taking to the show. To date I have only made oak ones but for this show it would be good to have at least one or two of as many different timbers as possible. So if any of you have logs which would yield something 40cm x 40cm by 100cm then I can get two out of that, could cut them to 50cm long to make them easier to move. I'll come and collect and pay in a about 6 weeks time assuming you've got some of interest. Probably going to be more economic for me if you have at least 2 - 3 different types so I dont use hideous amounts of fuel driving about. But if its something unusual will probably come anyway. Timbers of interest include ash, elm, sycamore, yew, walnut, lime, sweet chestnut, beech, poplar and london plane. Anything else such as fruit woods would be good but I guess likely to struggle for size. Also likely to get both ash and olive ash, oak and burr oak etc. if offered it Thanks
  15. They are going to stand upright in the reception. The building has been gutted I believe and the builder is going to ensure that they are securely fastened. as I understand it the floor and the plaster ceiling will then be finished around the logs so that it would seem they grow straight through the building. I am sure they are not expecting to just pay standard timber rates, would appreciate some names to give them, delivery only. Thankyou,
  16. I have a customer that want 2 large logs in their reception as a feature with there bark on. I have explained that the chances are that in time they will start to lose the bark and the client has now accepted that they are going to have to take a bit of a chance. I am not going to get involved in supplying then logs but if anyone on here would like to then if you post/message me your details then I will forward them to the client. The quantity is two, they should be fairly straight, as little damage to the bark as possible, length 3.5m-4m and diameter around 400mm to 450mm (roughly) I guess that it would help if they were fairly clean already as the client is probably going to want you to supply them pretty clean. delivery to enfield area for mid febuary. Thankyou,

  18. I have a client that wants to use some 3.5m logs as part of the shop fitting they are doing as a feature. However they dont want them to lose their bark as they dry out. I am generally involved later down the line but said that as far as I am aware when the timber dries the bark is coming off. Is this the case and if not are there some timbers that hold their bark better than others? I have thought about using that hardener that they use to repair rotten windows etc but I am not convinced. Any thoughts?
  19. Not yet, the money I was going to spend on slabs went towards a tradeshow but still planning on getting some soon. I am trying to track down some 1m+ wide square edge oak slabs air or kiln dried at the moment for some orders I have. Do you still have the burr elm?, though to be honest have tracked down some giant burr oak rings that I will probably buy first so wouldn't be soon.
  20. Thankyou, will be in touch in the next couple of weeks. I am looking for some dry at the moment for a table I have got to do very soon. I am planning on starting to buy more green timber to dry myself though, so keep me posted on anything interesting that you are milling and I might come and pick it up. Bob
  21. I am looking for some wide slabs to make tables from. In particular looking for burr oak, walnut, elm and regular oak in exceptional sizes. Would be interested to hear of anything that you may have in stock. I will be driving around the country picking up some pieces within the month. Understand it is all special stuff and you are going to make me pay for it. would be good to hear what you have + rough dimensions if possible Bob
