  1. Considering buying an old 130/150h.p 4w.d tractor for forestry work mainly pulling forwarding trailer. What size rear tyres are ideal as I was thinking if they are TOO wide they are liable to catch on old tree stumps, also thinking of manoeverability between trees.

Any suggestions of make model 130/150 hp 4 wd tractor I should be looking at ,unfortunately budget max of £14,000 at most.

I am only in a small way so will not do that many hours a year 500max,I should say. Thank you

  2. Is there a very small tracking device ,that could be put inside the cylinder head of an old chainsaw or mower engine ,if one removed the piston, and the whole of the item would act as the antenna for the device.

The idea being you have a dummy but tracker item, amongst your your kit.

I am sure such a device would be much appreciated by thieves!!!

  3. Sadly when one hears of forestry equipment from,"way off road isolated wood land operations ,sheds",being stolen one must surely start to ask oneself which individuals know that equipment is there ???? I my mind it may not always be the pikkees , as some of the larger stuff must be pinched to order or by someone short of money wanting to get started in forestry on the cheap. It is easy for people to say "this stuff is soon out of the country",

where does it go abroad ,some obviously does .

  4. From what most of you have said , it seems as though the fad is not over which is good news. Seems to be great variation in how much people use/light them, but that is nothing new I guess, but I still think the novelty of lifestyle items does where off with some people, especially if there is some effort attached to the item.

  5. I think some guys go to a firewood processor demonstration, where they have ideal processor sized wood and think WHOA that is money for old rope. They then buy a processor on finance ,a truck load or two of cordwood much of which is 18" and above in size. It is not long before that they realise that selling firewod is good for pocket money and not much else.

  6. This will seem a very simpleton question to ask but does any one know where one can get historical weather data for ones local area. I am interested to know how much temps have been above average this winter, compared to the last ten years ,the number of winters I have been supplying firewood . This season the worst so far. Cheers and a Healthy ,Safe and Prosperous(as long as you dont rely on log sales) 2015.:thumbup1::thumbup1:

  7. Does any one else think that the "NEW Lifestyle woodburner owners",soon get fed up with the "Chore/hardwork !!(in their eyes) of lighting a woodburner, soon deters them from using it very often so they then just buy a couple of nets of logs from there local garage, rather than a load/half load from us guys.

Does any one know if forecourt sales of netted logs are up,down or about average this winter so far?

  8. I am interested to know if you store your firewood in a shed or have to cope storing it outside.

I ask the question, as customers expectations of having dry firewood delivered are increasingly high, so much so that unless one can store AND process firewood under cover,I do not know how one can produce/deliver an acceptable product to our customers.

  9. I love the Esky in the footwell (not sure what it's called for a copter) as if he's guna eat a sandwich whilst on a

    break.haha

That caught my eye as well:thumbup:

Over here I expect he would be done by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority),under health and safety rules if they saw that video.

  10. Unless the helo is the toy of the plantation owner and he's happy messing around (and who wouldn't be?) can't be economically viable?? No second / third truck waiting for load? Helo take off / landing fuel consumption and down time.... Must be millionaires hobby?

TCD - did you see PM ref Beech stem??

There is another video which shows three trucks waiting but I can not seem to find it.

If you look down the comments on the Video there are some christmas tree prices. I guess fuel is cheaper in the states but even so ££££ ??

Never the less great pilotage and coordination.
