Hi David,

I hope all is well with you?

My mothers best friend is the mother-in-law of the owner of Newnham House in Plymouth (where the family are now residing) and I have spoken to the owner who is allowing me uninterrupted access next weekend. I know you guys were recently down there and wondered if you can point me in the right dorection for the best trees as I don't want to spend ages looking especially as this is a favour. I don't want to overstay my welcome.

Can you help at all? The owner just said for me to have a look but didn't say where!

Cheers,

  3. Hi David,

I hope that you and your family are well.

I'm after some knowledge from your experience if I may?

Been out to visit a Scots Pine Pinus sylvestris today and for whatever reason has begun to shed some of its lower limbs. Some small and some around 200mm. It's central in a lawn so plenty of compaction going on, some mechanical damage to exposed roots (mower) and is partially exposed on a hill. There are 2 Beech either side that offers shelter from prevailing winds at approximately 10-12m distance. I've never come across a Pine that has shed so many limbs in quick succession (16 days = 6 limbs). No visual evidence of FFBs but that is not to say that none are present! The tree is 47 years old - owner planted (ex-Tree Officer) (TPO'd). I am inclinded to Impulse Hammer it on Friday - I am not comfortable with the tree (gut feeling) and the target is children, 2 homes and a blind resident!

    Thanks in anticipation,

    Marco

  4. Hi David,

just a quick note to say that I was up near Westonbirt at the weekend visiting one of the employees there and he said that Autumnwatch had asked to borrow a PICUS tomograph so that should indicate that they are about to look inside a tree - I guess. It's not public knowledge as far as I know but should be good to watch if you wanted to pass the word round to those 'interested' in fungi and trees?

    Regards

    Marco

  5. Hi,I did my full 2 years resettlement and got fully trained in arboriculture.I took the Tech Cert Level 3.I already have a Degree in Wildlife Management.I did career experience at local arboretum first to find my niche and see what I was good at and what not so good at.I found that taxonomy and idenfiying problems was interesting hence Arborist work. What do you want to do?Tree surgery etc or arborist work which involved consultancy really although there are so many things you can get in to if trees are you r thing.Nursery plants and tree development, landscaping with trees, orchards, arboretum tree and seed collect-the list is endless. If you need any help give me a shout Matt and I will see how I can assist.Luckily being ex-mil you are already one step ahead - your discipline, flexibility and eagerness to learn - they love us!!

  6. Thanks mate I have already passed on details but very grateful for your response today.

  8. Hi, Armybloke here. My telephone number is 07919926793 - Marco

  9. Thanks very much. i am very passionate about the trees and all this ecology of this planet. You kinda get the feeling that it won't be around much longer if we keep messing with it. You are a very educated and philosophical soul. I admire your work and progress, although I can only fence sit at the moment as I have not been in the industry long enough but I do quite often have an opinion - as you have seen! Marco is my name.
