  1. Have tried both peg and pencryl both not a viable option commercially ,although I wanted to see the end results as I do a lot of wedding stuff, mbut to make it pay on small stuff it's a gamble, some discs split some don't when air dried, even submerged ones in pencryl didn't last, and an expensive test, all in all I,d cut loads and hope for the best,on the other hand if it was a one of for a project for myself I may be more patient

  2. I went to Uni in Sheffield Nick, and the place will always hold great memories for me.

I'm in Kent now, but if I was closer I could surely find you a few days here and there.

I'm not being funny at all, but maybe you need some help with your head first?

It sounds like you'd be great on an 'up' day, but bad shitt can happen so quickly in this game if you're on a 'down' one.

I apologise if this comes across as condescending mate, that's not my intention.

I paced the streets of the Steel City for 6 months in 1993 before the offer of a bunk in a caravan and £127.50 a week saw me head south with an Adidas hold-all with some crap clothes in it.

    And here I am now.

Yearning for the days in Broomhill and Eccleshall Road....😀

Good luck mate, keep on keepin' on.

Spooky ,I lived in ecclesial rd too around that time, staying in a room in cemetery avenue, on the floor with a mate who kindly put me up,as I was travelling doing summer jobs etc, climbing etc, worked at meadow hall as a security guard to make ends meet, this actually got me my first job as they where impressed with my work ethic ,ie willing to do anything, I applied for a job in Wokingham ,and got it as a ranger,(trainee), from there I built up my own company, etc etc, why not go and do some free work with accommodation just to give you a change of scenery?volunteer etc, might lead to new opportunities, your certainly qualified enough,', Any way fond memories of Sheffield, the foundry,Robinson ales, grindleford cafe and chip butties,,,,good luck neil:thumbup:

  3. Have just fitted one, defo not cheap and cheerful, heavy as to be honest, had it running for about a month, whacked a liner up the chimney and that's as far as I've got, need to add a cowl and a plate at bottom of the chimney, but couldn't wait, last night the room was toasty,so toasty it sends me too sleep, lol

  4. This my understanding of what is happening but could well be tosh stocksy.co.uk - Cars - Diesel Particulte Filters (DPF) and Rising Oil Levels - The UK Government Demonstrates the Law of Unintended Consequences

Was told the issues had all been sorted before I bought it and sadly it's all paid for.

Interesting mate , been speaking to my dealer about one this week, and having read this thread I mentioned the DPF , he also assured me that the problem had been solved?:thumbdown:

  5. I think I have a big oak burr tucked away in the shed from years ago, so it will be hard as nails, I will dig about in there as it was too big for my lathe at about 20 inch diameter if I remember right.

    Sweet👍

  6. the amount of people who bring to me 1" boards 12"-16" wide expecting me to plane the curve out on my 24" planner is unreal, they look dissapointed when I tell them there`ll be nothing left onve the curve has gone, lol, I always allow forthis when milling with the end product in mind, not that this is relevant james, but replying to duncansimpson really,

On a barn I`m building for air drying my timber(now got a mates caravan and loader in)I`m butting the boards right up /touching to allow for natural shrinkage, hence providing me the gap, they so far havnt moved as the logs where fairly dry when milled.look forward to seeing it

  7. The only real cure is to stop doing the things that cause it! Prevention is better than cure!

The guys have covered all the remedies and things that help a bit.

I`m with steve on this one,,I had it bad,and the main instigator was my motor bike, and one handed chainsawing, so have cut down on both,I did use a neopreme bandage, but sweats like crazy and itches..

  8. Exactly. Build a wood store that you can stand up in - your back will thank you.

Also, build one. Don't buy one. Here is mine - it takes 22 cubic metres.

You can tell it's built by a guy with his own mill:thumbup: solid 👍what's on the roof? Felt?

  9. Always a big step, but a rewarding one,and sounds like you`,ve almost there anyway, I was a full time ranger,in a good job, but after five yrs found that my chance of promotion was poor(and justified as the senior ranger is still there 19yrs on)so I went part time whilst I built up my customer base, this worked and soon enough the days I still worked for the council was a pain, is there options for this,or subbing back to them, ?

Follow your gut,I covered my backside a bit and learnt new skills too ,so when one aspect was quiet then I work on the otherside of the buisness(woodwork)

    Good luck
