  1. look forward to seeing them mark, even after planning , I still sand to get a good finnish, I dont usually use a big wide planks(usually two) for the tops, then I can plane the whole thing, my planner is a god send, I bought it second hand for £600 a few yrs ago and stripped it and refurbished it, its 10hp and runs on 3phase, my jcb could only just lift it,lol.

I bolt the benches together so if any parts fail due to knots or vandalisum i can unbolt and replace, or repair, that part was a learning curve as before I`d index screw and plug, but a pig to get out again.

  2. Very nice!

I'm glad there are still some discerning customers out there that aren't swayed by the relatively cheap mass produced product. It must be a limited market given how much time, skill, dedication and materiel it's takes to make yours in comparison to the factory output.

    Keep 'em guessing on price.....

Your bang on there Kevin,I'm one of those people who buy something if I like it and appreciate it,and I have a lovely piece of furniture from a graduate at art college ,it was his degree piece and worth every penny, his face was a picture when I said I'd have it,😆my range of products and prices vary from £3.50 to £15k so there's scope for every one, pubs rarely want to spend £££ on quality stuff like cedar benches but one did last yr and ordered ten, sold two too the hells Angels as party tables, and a couple to big houses which had there own woods,so there is a market, but for every bench I sell I sell 100 bird boxes at £25 each,,,time is the issue, trying to strike a happy balance with keeping the wife happy and not working every minute:001_cool:

  3. Nice benches ,looks really good .Must be worth a few quid?

I pressume these are for outside use? as the benches are attached to the table. From what I have recently veiwed on-line regarding tables and benches,it would seem that if the benches are seperate from the table then its classed as a dining table, attached its a garden table? And price seems higher for dining rather than garden, so would it not be better ,or more profitable to make the benches seperate and call it a dining room table?

there made to go in country parks outside a cafe, and a couple outside a sailing club, so groups can sit on them, having worked in the parks department previously for five yrs, if its not fixed down they walk, or end up being thrown in the lake, these are built so they cant be moved or stolen:thumbup:

  4. The man who owns the woods where i carve does a fair bit of timber framing (not HUGE amounts, but he does soem). He and I used to make all joints with a drill + chisels and it too ages, these mortices would fairly deep of course for buildings.. He looked into a whole load of alternatives but in the end he bought a chain morticer. Not a cheep thing to buy I'm told, but saves a hell of a lot of time

i`m with you on this one, ive got a chisel morticer, but once owned the mafell chain one, sold it for more than I bought it but now wish i hadnt, the odd one by hand is great, but cant think of ever using a router, other than hinges,,

  5. the legs are cedar ,and I spend a day planning, mitering, and half lapping the joints, then have a session on the 24" planner ,doing the seats, the tops where 36" across so sanded them with a belt sander, etc, there 10ft long with 3" tops and weigh a ton, so nobodies nicking them, they seat 12 people each .

  6. What sort of sizes? I've got a bit of Lebanon and WRC air dried....

Big J, someone was pestering me for a big dollop of cladding blanks if you need somewhere for your WRC to go? What sort of lengths will the postman take?

    W

lebanon or deodar is the stuff I`m after, pm me a price will

  7. well its that time again I need to stock up on some cedar,,anyone got some>? the stuff Ive got planked needs another yr,so want to keep the rotation going, let me know,or if you`ve got one in the pipeline, 07770376156:thumbup:

  8. they only usually do up to 9" boards as they are intended for things like door frames.

i used to work with one and we rarely used wider boards than 8" for our work. they are great machines as you chuck rough sawn timber in one end and get par out the other side.

i've just found the biggest planer i've ever seen on ebay.

Kupfermuhle VUIN 1050mm 4 Side Planer | eBay
