  1. Anybody seen this bracket on a Cedar (Deodar) before? Smells of mushroom but didn't taste. I thought the tree had Phaeolus but this appeared two years ago as a resupinate grey blob and has now developed into this.
  2. I came across the same tree in the botanic gardens in Naples, so glad I dont ever have to shimmy up it!
  3. Although the bottle butt explanation is plausible I think the lack of fruit bodies such as Ganoderma and the swelling further up the trunk suggest that this is genetic rather than decay. I have seen several examples of this phenomenon on Planes around London and the Royal Parks. I will post some pictures when I get time.

About

Arbtalk.co.uk is a hub for the arboriculture industry in the UK.
If you're just starting out and you need business, equipment, tech or training support you're in the right place.  If you've done it, made it, got a van load of oily t-shirts and have decided to give something back by sharing your knowledge or wisdom,  then you're welcome too.
If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.

See you inside.
