  1. 597665e33799c_shrew004.jpg.b597d1d17c03564548e8fd321d4b460e.jpgDropped this earlier on a site clearance I'm helping on at the minute, big old apple tree, no sign externally of anything wrong couple of small dead limbs further up as would expect on an old uncared for apple tree, first indication anything was wrong was when it pinched as soon as tried to put gob cut in, soon as touched it for back cut went straight over, was still healthy enough to have good crop of apples on though
  2. Does importing and kiln drying not defeat the point of firewood being a sustainable and ecologically friendly source of heating? If your thinking of pushing softwood more why not also look at fast growing hardwood hybrids such as willow, poplar and eucalyptus which have always been done down for firewood use as being too fast burning, I've been supplying poplar and willow mixed into my loads for years with no complaints :thumbup1:

  3. My 357 xp's on the bench again today, got it going last week after it being sat along while as it just refused to go, used it two days last week ran spot on plenty power etc, used it to cut some firewood other day and ran up stinking hot and cut out now cant get it going again, got fuel and spark and compression seems ok (not got compression tester though) but is just refusing to start :confused1:

  4. It amuses me no end to hear my nephews talking. My brother grew up on the Thames estuary like me, whereas his sons grew up nr Chesterfield.

Even I struggle with some of the lads from north derbyshire :laugh1: worst of all is father in law whose from hartlepool its like one long low mumble, just have to hope I nod and smile in the right places

  5. courgettes, courgettes, courgettes ahhhhh O and a corgimarrow because I missed one. Any great recipes for using them all up?

Hahaha sounds familiar, fethced another one in tonight so got 5 in the kitchen now and at least two more coming ready, saw a recipe for courgette and roast garlic soup in one of my books, off to peruse my preserves books again in a bit for inspiration :001_rolleyes:

  6. It happens mate, I'm the same I stress when I'm busy then I stress when I'm quiet, like now not been out the yard all week  but you just have to find your own way to deal with it, I can tell now when I'm getting bad, busy stress I seem to deal with better as after few minutes I get my head together and get organised, quiet time stress is worst because theres nothing to occuy your mind apart from the worry that your not earning, I now try and direct myself towards doing jobs that have been waiting, ie maintenance or firewood to keep my mind occupied :001_cool:

  8. They were built by carmicheal I think it was as a proper conversion on landrovers and rangerovers (thats not one obviously) the one they built were 6 x 6 as the first axle had a drive through diff but never really took off and are quite rare now, sorry landrover anorak :laugh1:

  9. My own personal point of view, as a moderator, is that in general people like Mendiplogs are "good posters". I do not have to edit out swear words for example, or monitor every phrase they write in case it will offend people. It takes all sorts from all walks to make any community, even a virtual community, and tolerance of others is required. I wouldn't like everyone to post like Jon, but then I wouldn't want the forum to be straight-laced and purely informative either, I think it would be dull and tedious. Hardly what we would like really.

So it makes the forum look less than professional? Less than homeowners seeking advice and getting knocked back? Less professional than bickering on the forum? Live and let live. :001_smile:

Well said Andy, have noticed some threads getting to the handbags at dawn stage recently :laugh1: I freely admit my grammar is terrible, never got the hang of it I can spell pretty well but ie usually trips me up in words but misspelling doesnt usually bother me when reading as I just read it anyway, I've got one of those brains that can read so long as its somewhere near spelt right :thumbup1:

  10. Found a load more courgettes last night :laugh1: Squashes are going mad, good crop of tomatoes but not ripening for some reason and my 50p cucumber plant from the supermarkets got about 15 cucumbers on it at the minute, had a roast last night with peas and carrots straight out the garden and home reared pork, spot on

  11. We used to use a ferret locator for tracing drains, put the collar inside a straight water fitting with a stop end and attach to the drain rods, then use the locator box to track it as its fed in :thumbup1: odd times I've used the cat scanner it gives you a general idea of the location of the cable or pipe but never found them particuarly accurate especially if wearing your toecaps :001_cool:

  12. The Husky forestry helmet is good value.Being a tightwad, i swap the husky muffs and visor to my petzl for climbing work.A couple of minutes effort to snap them in and out and the husky muffs are comfortable.

Just bought a new one of these as was going to get new visor for my old one then realised just how old it is, so spalshed out much comfier than my old husky helmet, thing that swayed it is the 6 point harness the stihl and oregon ones are only 4 point :thumbup1:

  13. Salad all this week .. Think I'm gonna stick with that untill it gets cooler bread just bloats me out and I don't wanna move and get the urge to sleep.

I get like that, have found oat bread seems lot better for me than white don't get that bloated lethargic feeling all afternoon :thumbup1:

  14. Our original mountfield with briggs and stratton engine was brilliant would cut anything, start regardless of how long it had been stood and lasted for years, it was replaced by a larger rear wheel driven mountfield with the tecumseh engine which was a pile of carp if it stood anytime it had to be easy started to get it into life and was right numb heavy machine, have'nt had one since
