  1. Best big saw for plenty of power all day logging fat timber. New or old ?
  2. Has anyone had any experience of this stump grinder attachment. I'm considering getting one for my avant 640 2018 model. Concerned about the visability of the grinder from the avant over a other grinders, also this is the non slew model as I'm unsure the slew model is worth the extra expense . The grinder works mainly on the bucket tilt and grinds horizontal as apose to vertically. It seems to do a decent job fro watching videos and seems more robust than avants own offering. Also concerned about wear on the machine. All advise appropriated. Thanks.
  3. Any idia on why my stihl 660 isn't running so good.. It's seems to be low on power and gets bogged down easily, I have an old 450 which easily outperforms it. Also any opinions on the newer big saws such as the 500i. I need something reliable with plenty of power for big timber. Thanks.
  4. Ps I already have an old version of both of these saws so already have battery's and charger and know they're both decent saws in the old style and am presuming the new versions are just a bit better. Thanks
  5. Thinking of on of the above saws, any advise appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Has anyone tried the Oleo mac gs th 240 top handle. ? It's that time, wondering if anyone's tried this way cheaper option, or any others, just fancying a change after a couple of decades of stihl and huskies, or perhaps better the devil you know.? Any advice on new top handles. Thanks.

  8. Hi Josh, looking at your feed from ages ago when you were looking for advice on a new track chipper as I am looking into track chippers atm. Interesting as you mentioned your jenson 530 struggled a bit with spruce tops, which to be fair are up there with the toughest arb waste for chippers to deal with. I too have plenty of spruce tops to chip and often wet in Scotland.  I'd be grateful of any advice on this.

I have my eye on the jenson spider, but even second hand 1000 pus hrs is at the edge of my budget. Maybe this would handle spruce better as it an 8 inch chipper.

Also the ability to offset tracks so you can run on slopes is an advantage, along with ground clearance.

At the other end is an older Timberwolf 190, the appeal of these ro me is the older stuff was made better and are more reliable with a good horse power engine, although they are now old with 1000-2000 hrs.

Then there the Timberwolf 230 which may be the sensible option, although I fear they may be not built to the spec desired for such an aggressive chipper.  ????

    Thanks in advance.

  9. Ayup boys, has anyone had any experience of the GL&D Titan super tracked bio chipper. They're about 12 k new and seem to chip small stuff rapid, I like the size and versatile, could just do with knowing if anyone has any first hand experience of them. I'm stuck inbetween buying one or going down the much more well trodden path of an old tracked timberwolf probably a 150, about 2010 year with 13000 hrs ish for a similar price. Any advise appreciated. Thanks.
  10. In the market for a new splitter, dont quite do enough to warrant a processor, plus the 6k or less machines seem slow and flimsy, also I have a reasonable amount of large timber which would be too big for a processor. I have always prodded on with my Wallenstien but now it's old and needing replaced so I'm wanting something similar but better. Anyone know of any splitter with a fast cycle, as the return on most is painfully slow, I'd rather not go kinetic for longevity. The Eastern made spliters look good if a bit pricey, but cant find any in the uk. Thanks.
  11. Hi does anyone have any advice for long leg chainsaw trousers. I'm 6ft 4, and long in the leg, 34-35 lev would be nice. Ideally looking for a lightweight climbing pair to prevent overheating in the summer. Was considering the new stihl but at 34 inch waist are only 32 inch leg. I find particularly when in a harness, even with high boots, trousers ride up and I fill up my boots with sawdust. Also exposing this high risk area to the saw.
  12. Just done a bit of research into antifreeze, seems more in depth than I'd thought. Any ideas on best stuff to put in schliesing/premier, 200mx chipper 2005 year
  13. looks like spend the extra. thanks for advice.
