  7. Right chaps you lot have the answers to most qustions between you so here is one i cant get my head around or need a bit of help with We are buying cordwood in on artics which carry aprox 26.5 tonnes yet we sell out in cubic meters. So to work out if its all worthwhile we need to know is there a calculation or rule of thumb that gives us a clue to how many cubic metres is returned for an artic load of cordwood?...to my small brain it depends on the wood weight when its purchased. The heavier/higher moisture content of the wood the less on the lorry, yet regardless of the weght the volume will still remain the same?
  8. Hi i imagine this has gone now but if there is any available can you PM me the price. Thanks
  9. Hiya can you pm me the price of these please ..sold about 6,000 nets in total last season so could be some decent volumes (not too far away either)

    Coal

Hi Sam I have been selling coal for 2 months now and sold about 15 tonnes and this side of the business is growing as fast as the logs. I only take in 20kg bags and do premium house coal and home fire ovals (smokeless). Primarily its going through retail outlets but we are offering it to the log customers as well (covers the distribution costs). Give me a call if you want to discuss more (you have the number) and I can give you a couple of numbers to try in the south west.Couple of areas to consider 1) VAT 15 on anything over 1 tonnne and 2) split bags etc . But on the whole it seems to be worth doing.
  11. Having spoken to the Coal Merchant today and read the advide from above I think I will give it a miss. I might buy a few bags of Coal and offer out when delivering to make a few quid but in terms of doing it on any sort of scale its a No..... will have to think of smething else as Firewoodman says....going to Keep it simple....... Thanks for all the advice chaps
  12. I was originally just going to buy it in to keep the garages happy and make the odd quid. However, I have just had a chat with the person I purchased the business from and he tells me he did manage to get his hands on some coal, bagged it up in clear rubble bags and offered it to his customers when he was delivering their logs - he said he did a bomb (mind you they needed coal as the majority of his logs were wet!). Not sure if he was spinning me a bit but I think I will get some prices of the local merchants on Monday. If you sell a few packs of firelighters, a bag or two of kindling and some coal to every other customer then thats the fuel covered and some! Only down side is its my money tied up in stock, got to keep it somewhere and do I really want to be messign about with coal when the season kicks in...Anyone tried it?
  13. Hi Guys, A couple of garages I supply around here have asked me if I can cupply bags of coal as well...dont really know much about it. does anyone have experience of wholesaleing coal - is it worth bothering with? What would the WS prices of Coal be in 10kg, 20kg bags? Thanks:thumbup:
  14. Here is the efforts of my "youngin's"
  15. Same this end. Busy start when we had that cold spell and then slowed right up. We averaging about 4 loads a week - I tend to use the my sales of nets in the garages as a measure and they have slowed up considerably...So using the time to get a heap cut up in the shed ready for the busy times to start.......fingers crossed! Anyone tried car boot sales as an sales outlet for bags/nets and Kindling....thinking of giving it a wirl?
  16. Hi, I am new to this site and have had a look at your website and see you are not too far away. I like to sound of the bag method you use and would like to have a chat about it. Would it be possible for us to meet you at your yard? Alex 07801693992

  18. Hi Steve, We would be interested - we cover North Somerset and West Wiltshire. Cheers
