  1. it is cracking steve, its a real battle bus, the boys love it and it has loads of electric gizmos, air con, climate control, heated seats, blahblah blah, pretty sluggish since its 3 ton, but a pleasure to drive, and no one gets in your way lol

They're as big as a bus though Stephen, do you not have to pull a red diesel tank around behind you ?:001_smile:

I know what your saying though about the 4k though pal, maybe I should use it as a deposit on something a good bit newer, hp aint cheap though, you can still be looking at upwards of 20 % and I don't like lining some suits pocket...

  2. Right lads, We are in need of a some larger transport, there are 6 of us in our house and only a Peugeot 306 to get us about, which is a big problem or should i say a small problem.

So what does the Arb think ?

    Disco TD5

    VW Transporter 6 seat conversion

    or

    Nissan Primastar 6 seat conversion

I've hummed and arghed for weeks over this now, can't decide whats best thing to do.

The vans can be used as a 2nd work van if needs be and we will get tax breaks etc if i'm right ?

But the disco's look the part, but I probably won't get any tax breaks with one ?

  3. Always the way with kit do you buy it then try and get the work or get the work then try and get the kit. Do you mind me asking what grant you got?

Bit of a catch 22 with equipment of that kind, But I think its probably better to be ready instead of buying something last minute, so to speak...

It was with our local Development agency and is for £1200, It has to be spent by the end of April though, so I'm scouring Ebay etc, I thought at first about getting a Box trailer, but I'm not sure now if thats practical for this kind of work, what do you think ?

  4. If its the 3.5 tonne 10ft x 6ft trailer your after? then good luck. I recently tried every where i could think of, but couldn't get anything that was in reasonable condition. Ended up buying new one from company over in Ayr, Jenkins Trailers, they also have place in Dumfries. Great price though. £2000 +vat.

I really don't want to spend that much Robert, There are some on Ebay, but I think people sometimes go daft on there and spend a bit more that stuff is worth, I'll wait and see if there are any buy it now's reasonbly priced before I take the plunge.

  5. I haven't bought one just yet, but I'm still looking mate, I need to get the trailer first anyways, I got a grant for that so happy days....

We haven't, as yet picked up any bigger contracts, which is a wee bit of a pisser, what with all the work I have put into tenders so far this year.

But I'm still gonna go ahead and buy one as something might still turn up contract wise.

What mower did you go for in the end?
  6. I'm looking for a 10 x 6 plant trailer with mesh sides for around £1200, I know its a lot of trailer for not a lot of money but that's all I have to spend on one.

I'm looking in the usual places, Ebay etc, but am I missing a trick somewhere ?

I also need a chainsaw with a bar 15 inch +, Prefer Stihl, as that's about all we use small machine wise, I need it for a CS30 & 31 Course i'm going to take in May.

    Many thanks

  7. Cheers Steve, I will have a look around see if anybody will let me borrow one for a week.

Cheers men, I have a MS180 I can *cough "borrow" with a 12 inch bar, will that be too small ?

I did mine with a MS170 with a 14"bar and it didn't make it particularly easy - with the mico picco chain I had to open up the back cut to get the felling lever in !

I didn't have to do a bore cut,but I should imagine that could be a PITA as well!

I'd try and nab a 260 or simillar if you can

    Good luck

    Steve

  8. We have a Yell ad for our Fencing And Decking operation and we have had 1 job through it, all be it a decent earner, oh and we get loads of views to the website.

Once they get to the website its up to you of course.

    *edit.

The ad has been running since early nov.

  9. Has anybody had any experience of using these machines ?

We cover all the different tasks on our grounds maintenance rounds but the borders and Hedge trimming can be very time consuming, especially forking the borders.

Are the cultivator attachments for these machines any good and if so which make would you recommend ?
