  1. is it still running rough?

or is it the amount of petrol its using? (roughly how much per hour)

It's not running to bad, but it seems to be using 4 or 5 litres per hour at a guess mate, we have had other slightly smaller engined machines that didnt use any where near the same amount.

  2. It should have fixed jets on it so you don't need to adjust the carb. Just make sure the air filters are clean and it should run fine. If you was a bit closer I'd take a look for you.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

    Cheers Jonesie.

I wonder if the carb could do with a strip down and clean ( something sticking maybe ) that being the case then, It's a right thirsty bugger. I've never had anything this greedy.

  3. If its a Briggs engine the screw at the bottom is to remove the carb bowl so you don't need to touch that. You have done the right thing with the slow running idle adjuster screw(screw in till it starts to cut out and back off 1/2 a turn).

If when its on tick over and it's still running to fast check that the cable going to the linkage has not been caught and pulled it back, reset the cable and then adjust the throttle stop screw. (make sure you do this before you try to adjust the idle adjuster)

Hope this is of help. I know what I mean but it might sound a bit vague.:001_smile:

Cheers Jonesie, that makes things a bit clearer mate.

How do i adjust the mixture then :blushing:

I'ts the 18hp V Twin engine on board if that makes a difference ?

PS, I got the equipment I rang up about the other day mate,

    Thanks very much

  4. Afternoon folks, i have recently purchased the above machine and all seems as it should, however the carb is giving me some problems.

The mixture seems very rich, plugs are fouled excessively, fuel lasts no time at all and the exhaust fumes are black.

So, I have had the air filter off and cleaned it, new fuel filter and then I tried to adjust the carb, I turned the idle screw in until it stopped, then back a turn and a half. Then I tried to adjust the screw on the bottom end (bowl) but it was tight in against the stop. On loosening the screw say half a turn petrol started leaking from the area around the screw.

So, I have screwed that back in and need advice as to what to do next ?

New part perhaps, or am I mistaken in thinking that this screw adjusts the mixture etc ?

As for the idle screw, I have it backed off as far as possible but the engine speed is only coming down to 2000 rpm, is this a cable or linkage problem, or is it perhaps something more serious ?

    Cheers in advance

  5. IMO you are going well over the top worrying about what you need for these courses. Just take what they tell you to in the info. Apart from that, clothes you usually wear for work will be cool.

First day will be filing a saw all day and taking it apart and putting it back together, not much more than that. All you then have to do is cross cut a couple of logs, knock over and sned a couple of very small trees and your done.

Chill mate. It wont be the ordeal you are expecting. I personally dont know a single person who has failed any NPTC ticket. :thumbup1:

Cheers for that, I'm fairly comfortable about the whole thing, I just don't want to turn up short of kit is all mate.

  6. Noooo, Hiax are almost the cheapest I think and IMO very comfortable.

you need Type A trousers (front protection) and some insist you need Type C (allround protection) You will have to check as Mozza says nothing baggy realy quite simple..

Make sure you got your first aid kit and whistle.

I have Type C trousers, but no braces, tried them on and they where round me ankles in no time.o:blushing:

  7. Ive never met anybody with a chainsaw jacket mate, Bob on here is a good guy to ask about what exactly you'll need for your course mate, Im pretty sure you wont need a chainsaw jacket tho.

    Cheers Mozza,

    FR Jones have these.

TT295 Cofra Woodsman chainsaw boots (VAT exempt) £65.63

    Any users on here ?

I notice they have no classification though, does this matter ?

  8. How occasional?? If its once in a blue moon, They do some chainsaw wellies for about £50, If you want boots for occasional use, Any willl do, Although id get waterproof ones :thumbup1:

We get maybe 2 - 3 jobs a month which we usually sub out, so not a great deal at all Mozza.

None snag, Means no loose clothing, Ie anything that a branch could "snag" and drag you threw a chipper/catch on a falling tree and drag you to your demise etc

So, I dont need the chainsaw jacket etc ?

  9. Evening men,

With my CS30 31 coming up in 10 days I'm trying to put together my kit, and one of the priciest items seems to be the boots, so what in your opinion are the best value, bearing in mind I will only be using them occasionally, I dont want to spend a fortune as I still need a saw.

Also, what is meant my by " non snag " outer clothing ?

I have the trousers, but that's all clothes wise.

  10. hey JD,

if you're looking for the cheapest saws in our area go to dougie ivison up at melmerby. e puts a massive discount on all his saws and kiy. well worth the extra drive out to his place.

he often has a range of saws that he's reconditioned and selling second hand but i'd still buy new unless you're really not expecting to use it much.

a 353 by husky is a great saw to start. i think doug sold me one for £290. it's still running fine 5 years later. the 357 is a great saw but a bit more moody and a hell of a lot more £££.

Cheers will give him a ring.

  11. Evening men,

I'm off to do my CS30,31 in a couple of weeks and I need a bigger saw than my MS180, or so I have been told...

So recommend me something as I'm firstly unsure and then secondly not to keen on buying off of Flebay

    Cheers
