Ron,You havnt said what part of the country your from?, I know alot of people dislike utility arb but at least you will be put through your tickets & get the experience of tree work(be it the dark side of tree work, lol).
If your southern based get in touch with Scottish-Southern Electric as they are recruiting at present & it states no experience needed.the vacancy if advertised at http://www.trees.org.uk/classifieds & closing date is 24th july.
Good luck

Will,I was earning £320 a week before tax in 2003 & i had loads of experience & qualifications back then. Yeah you can earn alot more self employed but with can you guarentee enough work to keep you living comfortably? I hope you can & say good luck & take my hat of to you.
-
"how much will you earn daily with the full time job, 100quid ish??"
I WISH, if that were the case then id bite their hand off, that sort of steady salary for a guy like me just out of college would be pukka
no there offering me about £65 a day after tax. that is why i had the doubts in the first place
£65 a day after tax for someone who has just left college with little experience is a good wage IMO.As that will be a take home pay of £325 a week,
There are some jobs out there at present not even near that on top line.
But as the lads have said go with your heart,I love doing proper arb but the wages arent that good at present hence why ive gone back to utility.

My fly failed at the bottom of mine & i thought we bother with the agro just get needle & thread out & stitch just above the broken part of zip where teeth had pulled out.
All sorted for the price of needle & thread.

these are the factors of which you devide the MBS
Metal work divide by 5
Rope by 10
Textiles by 7
-
When i was taught MBS stood for Minimum Breaking Strain which you could equate to SWL safe working Load.

In jersey we had a foam insert that went inside the air filter & a band that went around the outside of the airfilter what a big difference it made.

The point im getting at is if someone is making lowering devices at home or work & selling them how do we tree surgeons know the safety rating.
Anyone who has done the Loler course with Liam & Richard at Treevolution would of seen home made lowering devices which have failed.
-
yes all dried out ,apparently that loering device has been tested to 5 ton,he recons 3ton is a safe max load with a working load 1.5 tons nice guy .
If its tested to 5 ton & has a safe max load of 3 tons(3000kg) i would say the safe working load is more like 600Kg.
& any kit should carry the CE mark.
-
Brian has the lowering device been tested & CE marked?

You really need to get a hold of G55/1 Engineering recomendations for Safe Tree Working in Proximity to Overhead Electric Lines to read up on first.
Yes the old Red book does contain photos at the back but they arnt that good.I assume your just going to learn your self then go for the assessment which will save you money if you know your stuff.
I have aload of training stuff from when i did my training i will have to scan it & then will post it to you if you send my your address via a PM.

Can anyone tell me does the cert only last for 3 years ? Do you have to do another test to keep it valid ? or is it for life
Thanks Eastwater:001_smile:
Well Done, A Certificate of Competence is valid for life but the HSE would like people to do refresher courses every 5 years so im lead to believe.

I have a job to start,Im just looking at the Arb industry as a whole. I was earning that about 10 years ago.
As i said at start of thread ok if you have kids & claiming tax credits etc.

-

Mackeral bbq is lovely aswell.
Sea bass is another lovely tasting fish.

They actually get 29 days holiday as from 1 April 2009.
Does that include bank holidays?
-
Get intouch with Bruce at Complete tree care he should be able to help.
-
From what I gather the average wage for a paye climber is 16-20k. Am I wrong?
Most companies i was intereviewed by £16/£17K max
-
I know this subject has been covered in other threads and i know what everyone thinks they should be paid but how many of you that work for a good company who has a partner & kids that get top ups like Tax credits?
If you didnt get Tax credits etc would you be able to support yourself?
The reason im asking this is while looking for employment the wages that was on offer only benifited people as above if you know what i mean.
Your Views & opinions please people.
-

Because some people are strange and attached to there ungainly snap hooks, and as long as they are still openly sold and used, then so be it.
There is no point getting to pedantic over the fact its not technical a 3 way, the design of a snap hook does make it difficult to open accidentally, unlike a 2 way karabiner where the possibilty of the barrell turning is in my opinion higher hence the reccomendtaion of a 3 way minimum.
Yes technically it shouldn't be used, in my opinion a good loler inspector should deem it fit for use but at least educate the climber that he should move with the times, its a brave new world out there!
Its not an insurance nightmare!! Its just common sense!
Marc i think if you look back you will see that i did state that i would pass a snap hook but also mark on inspection sheet that its not recomended for use.
-
If you have a snap hook on why dont you just cut it off & replace it with a 3way krab?
-
Is your Snap Hook 3Way???? If not its not recomended. Loler inspectors are meant to inspect equipment "In Fear Nor Favour" so make of that as you will.
You lot do & think what you want but forget Insurance companies like to get out of paying if they can find something not right.
advice please
