  1. Hi mate, I think it has got one of the 'springy' type things on the end of the pick-up tube. It was suggested that I try a bent wire in the tank to get the pipe out, but it is far too short for that so It looks more & more like a visit to the lawnmower man that I know. Thanks again to all for the info, I'll let you all know how he does with it. cheers.
  2. Well the saga goes on chaps, tried the fuel in oil tank as suggested by rupe, also air line & to no avail. I will have another think about it & may contact a guy I know that does fix these things as a living. Thanks again all.
  3. Aawww Frank, and you a fellow Yorkshireman at that. How could you? I feel sooooo violated:001_tongue: I know what you mean though mate, you have to pay a lot more to get the real good stuff. Shreks wee bro. Nice one mate, made me chuckle:001_smile: I'll try to get a look at it today, miserable wet day but I'm used to that as I work mostly outside anyway.
  4. Thanks again Guys, So which IS better Steve? Best not go there eh? Just refilled the tank on Sunday afternoon too. Good news is that is the last of that particular oil so I'll be able to get another brand, any suggestions? or will I just have to try different ones till I find one that does a good job? I do actually like the saw, it has served me well. I will save me pennies & get a real saw one day:001_smile:
  5. Thanks for that,I'll give it a try when I get the chance. Some oil does seep out, but not enough to do anything useful. So your idea of a blockage further back could be the answer. Still the same oil but can't think of the brand for the life of me. Thanks again.
  6. Hi Guys, Just joined & wondered if anyone knows why my chain oil delivery system won't work. It's a Ryobi pcn 4545 (yeah, I know that NOW) Thing is, the chain is bone dry. I can find advice on everything else in the manual, but not how the oiler works. Is it a drip feed, or as I suspect, a pump feed? It fired oil like a good 'un when I bought it but not now. I tried poking the grommet with narrow wire but to no avail. The grommet won't come out easily & I don't want to force it out till I know what I'm letting myself in for. Saw works fine but oiler lets it down. Any ideas please? cheers, treetop.
  7. Hi Stephen, thanks for the welcome. Love your avatar, Yes, I notice a lot of Yorkies use this forum which tells me there's 'nowt wrong wi' it lad'. You say I look like a tree cutter, Ilike the sound of that, is it because I have an aire of professionalism about me in my avatar? Or just 'cos I'm behind a pint? Probably the latter I'd guess:001_smile: Thanks again mate. T.T.
  8. Hi all, Just letting you know I'm here. Not in forestry, but in valeting (cars, buses, coaches etc.) I want to move into this kind of work & will welcome any advice. I have an application in with an arborist fairly local to me, but he apparently has a long list of names........a VERY long list of names:ohmy: Good news is that he is not calling anyone who doesn't drive. Due to his location, any employee needs to get to work in the first place, which is not an easy option with public transport. May call the local council as they have a team so may get chainsaw ticket through them. I own a Ryobi 4545 petrol saw,(18in" bar) and seem to get on with it ok. I was a volunteer at my local Nature Reserve a few years ago & learned a little bit about forestry work when we were felling trees. I was clearing the ground & talking to the full time staff, who were fully trained. As it may be time to change direction, I thought maybe I can do this...Here's hoping.
