I aim to charge £100/cube from September. Have held my prices to £80.00 this winter.
-
Even at 1.5 cube a tone conservative estimate, I'll get 39 cube which gives about £3000 which is £2000 profit as I do all the splitting so no labour costs. Any more is a bonus.
-
£39.00/ton x 26 tons yes big ouch but think I'll get 60 cube out of it @ £80.00/cube. Not so much of a big ouch more like a lot of grafting!

Well, not too much work on at the moment. Had 2 big jobs scheduled for January and both have been put on hold so I decided to put my money into the future and invest in logs for the future! Need to do some serious logging now.

Give it to meeeeeeeee I'll come and get it. Just spent £1000 on 26 tons of oak and ash........bugger!

I have had a call from a chap who wants some firewood at least 1m3
He is too far away to warrant delivery from me as the delivery cost would be inappropriate.
Does anyone cover SK16 5JU
If you do give him a call I told him the average cost of 1m3 would be around £80.00
Details of client are:

e-mail him [email protected]

Never heard of a ratted log:thumbup:

Customer last week wanted to know how long half a cubic metre of logs would last on a log burner! I just said I couldn't answer that one as there are too many variables - too many what? So I told them I'd run out already
Ha ha, had the same call. What a twerp!!

Don't you mean "20% Moisture", ie "80% dry" ???
Yes, you know what I meant to say.Was just getting dragged down by negative comments.
-
i think it should've read.... a minimum of 3 months
4 seasons to a year
3 months to a season
3 months in a good summer = dry wood, especially ash sycamore, hawthorn, lime, alder, beech, larch..................but not oak, or poplar.
and yes i have dried it in 3 months and yes it was moisture tested to see if it works and they were cut in half
you need a lot or space, air flow and sun/heat to work, but will not work if all in one big pile
Totally agree
-
All right then - hands up everyone who's selling 3 month split logs as 'dry'?
You may get away with ash - but oak, beech, sycamore, hawthorn...?
IT's ALL ash! Do not see a problem with calling it seasoned after 3 months as it IS down to 20 % dry. Don't know what all the fuss is about and YES I do tell the customer exactly what they are buying and how long and where it has been dried.

noooooo,
becarefull with that one, it only stacks up to 0.7-0.8 of a M3,
they will have you on that.
just say its loose tipped volume would fill an area of your above quote:thumbup1:
Totally agree with that

Great idea will be trying to make one this week.
-
So, felled in August/September(ish) and it's dry after 3 months? - I think your idea of 'dry' may be at odds with other peoples ideas of 'dry'...
You can get wet wood to burn, but it will give out less heat and will knacker up your chimney.
It's split and stacked indoors as soon as it reaches the yard. So.. yes it's dry.
-
You wait till yours starts to fall out....
......and the ladieeees love it.
Good for you!

Doing ok here in cheshire!! Am getting close to emptying my dry seasoned log store. Have the same amount again, but only 3 months dry. However, they ARE dry and will burn. Do a burn test at home on these and the product is dry. ALWAYS tell your customer what they are getting and you cannot go wrong. Have a waiting list at mo. Merry Christmas logs!!!!!!!!!!!

John that's made our day superb:biggrin:

Is that lovely Beech?
I'm close to running out of 12 month seasoned. Got a whole lot of 3/4 months drying as we speak. Have told all my clients and they are happy to take it. I must be charging too little?

I've done the opposite. Quoted 2 'large oaks' in july. Quite a lot of money.
Client asked me back to have another look. The job's yours he said, then I looked at the trees with no leaves. God they look small. He wanted a large pine out so I said I'd do that for free. Fell better and right about the job now
Ordered some timber in

When you work for yourself and there's no work on what do you do? Sit at home and wait for the phone to ring? No, you get down the yard and graft. A bonus to this career is the small profit you will make by using your time well.
