  1. Alright guys got a pair of SIP Freedom Type C Chainsaw Trousers

I have used them like 2 or 3 times and for the past 5 months they have been sat on my bedroom floor, i need some money so they've gotta go

There is no rips or even any frays that i can see, they are in perfect condition

I cant see where the size is on the trousers any help? It does say 76 - 80 next to a picture of a person, i dunno well they fit me, probably a medium or large...

    pm me an offer :001_smile:

    Cheers guys

  2. The red one has a real "Fred Dibnah" look about it!!!!!!!!!! Very smart!!!!!!!!!!!!

    haha yeah man!

when grandads back off holiday i'll get a pic of the inside... everything you ever need in there

theres only just about enough room for me in the passenger seat.

foot well is brimmed with tools, spare dolmar in the middle seat, pulleys, shackles, chains, everything you ever need in the woods

  3. Not a bad job!

I bought one off eBay butproblem with roof mounted lights is it lights up all the bonnet too.

Why don't you mount them upside down so there less vulnerable?

alright man only just noticed your post, i didnt mount them upside down because of the way i bodged the light bar up, really its too low, when the lights are upside down they ubstruct the windscreen too much

  4. I love this sort of fencing- it just seems to flow- so natural rather than all the standard cut timber featheredge etc.

Cutting your own to do the whole job also sounds just the ticket.

Did you price it up and take the time taken to make it into account- and did this mean the job worked out cheaper than bought in- or was it just the way you wanted to do it regardless?

i dunno how it was priced thats my boss's job, it may well have been day rate as it was all made on site while we were putting the fence up, we morticed them there with a chainsaw and made the rails fit ect.

the timber we used belongs to the estate where we were working, that was part of the job, they want to use as much of their own stuff as possible, which is nice

  5. i will probably sound a complete idiot, but is the chestnut seasoned or not, if green do you have to cut your lengths longer to allow for drying/shrinking?

looks loveley ace, just the job.

    joy

you dont sound like an idiot, we didnt really know what we were doing making it up as we went along aha, the wood wasnt seasoned as such, it wasnt straight out the ground we fell it just over a year ago,

you can see in some of the pics some of the rails are right through the mortices so shrinking should not be a problem, they shouldnt come out of the two mortices

  6. This was our first time doing this type of fencing and i loved it! Looks awesome!

Fell and split all the materials ourself, was good fun and in such a nice location! My boss (my second cousint) great grandparents lived in that house so it added a bit more satisfaction to the job.

  7. round wood with the bark still on wont last only a couple of years, not sure how sawn rails would fare, the timber lasts very well when in contact with water, but i would say you'd be better off keeping the alder for firewood and finding some sweet chestnut for you fences...

to be honest a couple of years wouldnt be too bad, it will only be to stop the horses gettin the trees while they grow, wire is a no no

I wouldn't bother with it. Alder is good either permanently wet or permanently dry. The posts will rot a ground level first, within two or three years.

havent got enough for posts thats why i said rails. Was planning on using treated softwood rounds, like we normally use for post and rail fencing

been fencing all day with sweet chestnut and its great stuff! just havent got access to much of it

  8. Is alder any good for milled fencing rails?

Got a patch in one of our fields that i planted up with trees last year and the horses have started to get in there eating the tops on a few trees, i want to put a cheap post and rail fence round there. After those strong winds at the weekend theres a few alder trees down, and theres some that have been down a while, theres enough to mill up to get the rails i need, more or lees.

What would this timber be like for this use?

    cheers guys

  9. alder is a brillant firewood! burnt tons and tons of it in our woodburner last year! we sell a hell of a lot of it as logs too!

its lovely wood, cuts like a hot knife through butter to, also awesome to climb their like ladders :) good trees overall
