  1. cheeers guys :D

    well keen for going there!

ahaha that would be sweet, its not a degree though, just a college type course cant remember what level it actually is, the same as what i've been doing at the moment, with agricultural engineering, but im not really fussed what qualification i get, i just want to learn all about it :)

  2. Yeahh thats right got a letter today saying I have been accepted at Barony College in Dumfries to study Forestry Engineering starting in August

I cant wait its gunna be sweet!

Probably going to drive my old landy up there, and will be looking for weekend work, so arbtalkers in the area if ya need any help let me know

  3. your certainly not mad! forestry work is lovely work! thats all we do pretty much, its only recently that i am starting to enjoy the climbing side of things, but i would still rather be knocking over some big timber :)

seen as though you have some nice kit, go for it! we work with a lot less than that, as many people on here know our kit is rather old.

im sorry i cant really help you on the pricing side of things, thats my cousins and granddads field,

but in my opinnion a general figure can not be given about how much can be felled and extracted in day, too many things to take into account, ground conditions, access, speices, size, break downs.... the list goes on

  4. axe men has turned into a bit more of a tv show for a wider audience, to begin with they showed more falling and explained a bit more of the extraction process, well i thought they did anyway, now its got the aqua logging crew and shelby which make it a bit more entertaining, i still love it though!

heli loggers is awesome but i would hate to be "jigging" (think it was called that) those trees i would rather be knocking them over aha

another good one is swamp loggers, now they have some nice kit!

  5. Nice.

Lights are always good. Too many time i have worked under the lights of the tractor as their better than the truck.

Just one thing is to check with your insurance company as extra lights normally extra on the policy.

cheers, yeah the more lights the better

should probably tell them about the winch too...

  6. ......you've worked on or near ?

We reduced this Lime today (basal cavity - Ganoderma sp)

In the background are the flats from the beasts 'First Kill' scene, from An American Werewolf in London.

    .

Niceeee! it was only a few months ago i saw that film!

  7. I've wanted to put some roof mounted lights on my landy for a while now, but i really didnt want to spend 60 quid + on a light bar, so got the old arc welder out and made my own :001_smile:

The spot lights are just 12v 55w tractor work lamps, much cheaper than any of of the spotlights on the landy type websites

Wired them up at college today and they work really well, well pleased  so much more satisfying making somthing yourself :001_smile:

  9. Alright guys!

Thats right i might be coming to scotland aha,

I've been wondering what to do next year, and have now been thinking about going to college in scotland, so i've looked into a bit more and i am thinking about doing a Forestry type Engineering course at Barony College in Dumfries.

I have already done a 2 year ND Forestry course and am now doing a Agricultural Engineering course, so i kind of wanted to combine to two  plus i've never been to scotland :thumbup1:

Me and granddad are heading up on the train tomorow afternoon and then going to the college open day on wednesday, really looking forward to have a look around.

Well excited and thought i would let the arbtalk world know ahaha.

Also if i do decide to go up there, it may not be for me, so i'll find out on wednesday, i will have to lodge up there, and was wondering if anyone in the area would have any work at the weekends or whenever im free? Long shot but worth an ask :001_smile:

    Cheers guys

    Liam

  10. Alright guys

Just got home, and as i was coming up the lane my landy's steering started pulling a hell of a lot to the left, at first i thought i may have a flat, had a look and nope, didnt have a look under the hood at the steering arms its dark and i wanted to get inside.

I wont be needing it till monday really so its not a major thing at the moment, just wondering if anyone could suggest what it may be, off the top of their head like, so i know what i may be in store for :001_smile:

Oh yeah its a 1984 Land Rover 90

    Cheers

    Liam

  11. I have had a number of bent bars in, I use a meter rule and a big vice, find out where the bend is - generally around the location slot and then put it in a vice and give it some by pulling or pushing on it.

Do it bit by bit and as long as it isn't really bad then it should get knocked back in to shape - never done one over 20" though but have done a few laminated with slight bends - sounds expensive:thumbdown:

yeah most of the time they can be bent back by hand, 2 weeks ago falling some ash and one grabbed the bar and gave him a bend, put him between through the side of the grab on the forwarder and gave him a pull, jobs a good un
