That sounds like the one for me when I have ripped my North Face to shreds!
Got a nice Swanndri shirt as well, which is still warm when wet, very tough but weighs nearly 900KGS and smells like a sheep. I can't work with a hard-on.
the tears are rolling down my face, the moderators must be snoozing lolha ha.
swandris are good, but basically a chekered donkey jacket.
i am going to try and work that line into a sentence tomoroow. still giggling:001_tongue:

when using your footlocking techniques to access large trees,it always looks to me that you are a fair bit out from the trunk(compared to prussiking) i take it when you are well up, you just make your way over to the trunk to put in your main line.can this be quite awkward?

thats ace mate,
is the wood on yew bad for you?
sure is, dont know the exact science but you dont want a big lung fool. i met an old boy years ago on holiday, when he retired he bought an electric planer, went up his loft and got stuck into a piece of yew, straight to hospital, he walked with sticks and could hardky talk for lack of breath. i read it was in the resin. alkaloid taxil comes to mind, but i am rubbish with latin stuff. when i cut it with the saw i always wear a mask. i was told thats why they used to plant it around cemeterys. not to ward off demons but to keep out livestock. the seeds in the beries are poisenous i think but not the fruit. this is just what i have picked up over the years. maybe not 100% right but i dont think its too far off.

I got sent a load of Goody jokes, I decided not to post them. Are they in good taste or not?

cheers pete, they look good, prussiks can be a pain when on really small stuff, the knot can get caught on small forks or loosen when rubbing on the stem. i relise now why you guys know so much about rope thickness. :001_smile:to fit in all these gadgets. thanks
-
Hitch, cinch or art positioner are preferable for me. They all can be released in a controlled fasion whilst under tension.
prehistoric climber here pete, whats a cinch and art positioner?
i can slacken my rope grab one handed ok, its a thumb and pinky manouvere.
but i am keen to find out about new gadgets:001_smile:

do you guys know of any companies that work with bucket trucks in the uk, i watched one work in nz, it was an awesome piece of kit. i have trawled through companies web sites but never seen any.

I just sell as 1 or 2 m3 loads to normal customers, was thinking of selling bags for £3.00 or 3.25 each, putting a few outside so they catch peoples eye as they drive past, your price sounds about the same as mine as your bags are slightly smaller.
i would like to cater for all customers. the big dumpy bags are good value for money but some folk dont want them, or dont want the hassle of shifting the logs after. the small bags are really light and more lady friendly i think(not being sexist)
-
Fortunately I NEVER carry waste.
-
Yea easier that way, keeping to a round number saves the change, the garage pays at end of the month so dont matter there:001_smile:
what about your other customers?how much do they buy them from you for, does it conflict with the petrol station prices?
-
I have been using 50x85, and sell them to the local garage for £2.80, full right up hard wood, they sell them for £4.00. When i ran out they started having them from someone else, who is putting i about 8-10 small soft wood logs, selling them to garage for £2.15, and they are then still selling them at £4.00, lucky i no the manager so will still have mine when i get some more wood:sneaky2:
i was going to sell them for 2.50. 2 for a fiver. keep it a nice easy number me thinks.

A "skip" that was the term i was looking for!
Got a couple of quote's today, hardly big money to get one custom made. Cheapest £30 then £50 and last £150 plus vat!! Don't know what they were making the last one out of though.
It's only a small 6 inch chipper i have, so i will just need to move the chip to get a decent load on! Thank's for the input guy's.
in my experience in making high sides with checker plate or galvy steel. you would need to buy 2 8x4 sheets, and there was always a couple of small thin bits left over, depending on how high you made them. and they would use these bits for the skip.
put the skip on with r pins so they can be taken off if you are taking the sides down or using the van for other things mate

possible a land rover hi cap pick up
long wheel or short wheel base. either way it will be pretty narrow.

hey all,
do any of you guys have secure boxes on the back of your tippers, pick ups or in general?
If you do, do you keep saws and kit in them if so what size are they and where did you get them from?
Last but not least if its not to much trouble could you take a pic of it so i can see it please?
cheers guys
PS ive looked at the ones on ebay but i can really get the size of them in my head. so if poss pics of them with kit in them would be good
what vehicle is it for?

ok only reason i asked was if they have just switched to that machine after using a timberwolf for instance, then they may have been expecting it to take large wood in as a timberwolf does, and they simply dont. we always used to cut anything big with a slanting cut to make it go through easier.
'slanting cut' why have i never thought of that, doh. my chipper will take anything you give it but sometimes it will thump big bits straight up off the inside of the hopper getting a grip of the butt. you wouldnt want your hand in there when it doeasnt. top tip steve.

Its a great Idea Reg I really like the simplicity of it. Shame you didn't make it last year. Have you worked out the SWL yet?
from what i have seen of regs work it is probably about 30ton:scared1:

20 odd years ago I split my thumb down its length on a circular saw - from that day I have never been able to eat or handle chicken drumsticks! Nasty wound like that can take time to get over the pain from even small knocks, good luck and here is to a speedy return to work.
i am still getting shudders thinking about tommers finger.ouch:sad:

Does anybody use this chipper? We are having problems with the gripping mechanism on the feed-wheels. The service guys are being a little bit vague but after checking they say that the springs are fine.
is it new or second hand mate, my tp has a belt that drives the pump that runs off the main drive, if it gets loose it will squeal a bit, it usually just needs a tightening. maybe yours is similar, but the service guys should have checked that. are the rollers stopping/slowing down/or spinning without gripping?
