  1. Thanks Monkeyd, I look forward to seeing it... Talk about fast response!
  2. Has anyone got access to a video published by Oregon called 'Oregon Tea Break'? I had a copy on CD-ROM many years ago but lost it... It featured an old US / Canadian guy spiking up a big Douglas (or something similar) who then knocks the top out, sits on the surface and has a nice cup of tea. Well worth a watch! Can someone upload it onto here? Cheers
  3. You're not alone Dean... Working as a corn-carter in my youth, I managed to drive (at pace) out of a barn with the grain trailer at half-tip height and beat the whole front of the barn off! The farm manager was very understanding (considering he was walking out of the barn door as the door frame and 2 large slider doors smashed to the floor 10 feet in front of him!) as he had just switched the hydraulic pipes around without telling me! You live and learn...
  4. Have you considered the Arb Associations Tech Cert? It's level 3 and well respected within the industry. It can be studied online or one day per week around the country... have a look at http://www.treelifetraining.co.uk . Or you can just go straight for the exams
  5. ... or the old classic 'The Foresters Companion' by N D G James (I think!)
  6. There is loads of information out there... one classic is 'Practical Forestry for the Agent and Surveyor' by Cyril Hart. Its been one of my 'go-to' books for years. Hope this helps Regards Mark
  7. All good advice... #Trust your kit #Know its in good nick #Know its the right kit for the job #Rely on your knowledge of trees and the biomechanics of trees #Do one task at a time and work to a plan #Most important of all... get yourself a song! I always get Prodigy and 'Minefields' going round and round, love it! Nice pictures Joe, the Scarlet Oaks look great in the middle distance... didn't know you had your CS38 booked though!!!? Mark
  8. Wow... what else can you say?
  9. Really interesting threads recently guys, particularly the Meripilus one... it finally prompted me to register and contribute rather than just having a crafty butchers evey now and again... so here's my first post... Andrew, it has been fascinating to read your comments about root investigations using the Airspade and Airknife... I agree entirely that we, as arboriculturalists, do need to focus more on activity and relationships below ground. I would like to ask though, how damaging you would deem repeat (say annual) Airspade/knife assisted assessments to be? I imagine that most trees are well placed to cope with small scale fiberous root loss as a one-off but repeated loss and on the same roots? Over to you... Regards all, Mark
