thanks, it looks like the new sherpa models have a different headstock to the older ones, the skidsters have the same as the normal sherpa headstocks so they should fit straight on.

Sorry, don't know. It came with the machine and I've never noticed a manufacturer's plate or anything on it. It's pretty big for the machine (like those crabs with one absurdly big claw) so I suspect a homebrewed item. If I had to buy one now, I'd buy the light blue one from whatever the business in Chesterfield who sell the Sherpas is called, or a Klou. If I had other machines, I'd do what doobin did and make one that could be shared.

Thanks mate, yeah I have had a look at the Sherpa grab and that possibly the best way to go, I take it Sherpa attachments fit straight on a skidster

I reckon its easily saved me  3 days x 1 man labour hire this week and the subbies i use to help with the climbing are always happy to see the wee machine on my trailer when i get to site. 

Is that the standard log grab that sherpa sell? does it swivel at all and I take it that will fit a skidster?

Hi Alex, what grab is it you have on the skidster please?

Any machine under 50hp will be very poor on hydraulic drive, that FSI will be pony at 25hp and the bandit is 5k cheaper!

theses will be a good hire machine for landscapers etc as they can’t easily fuck em up.

Personally I wouldn’t touch used trailers again, well not ya run of the mill stuff, more specific stuff like big tippers trailers then yes but your average plant trailers I would always go new simply because there is so much nicked stuff and if there not nicked there fuct, see it in every advert, “Brakes need adjustment “ “lights need looking at” “ could do with wheel bearing adjustment “ etc etc the down side to new is they easily become new nicked trailers!

What’s a small vehicle? To the traffic commissioner anything over 3.5t is HGV , no such class as a small HGV, you will be lucky to get permission to park at a domestic property if your being honest on your o license application as one part of it is you have to show you can enter, turn round and leave easily. That said you could use a local yard, get it and then park at your place, Joe Public can’t tell the difference between a 3.5, 4.5 or 7.5 ton most of the time, just don’t piss locals off. 

On your o license it will say your operating yard and that where it should be kept, your not allowed to park a hgv on a domestic property, anything over 3.5t is classed as hgv regardless of size, that said no one will know unless you are grassed up in which case they will start asking questions or remove you license.

Conclusions.

The chipper is superb, a level up from the GM 150, really pleased, great fork crushing power.

The Schliesing will come out only on the really big jobs from now on.

FWIW dealing with John Mason was a pleasure, a bit more organising than the usual purchase with export certs and the like, all dealt with quickly and without fuss.

Yeah rear half, spring cups top of chassis legs, there are good ones out there but you can’t be fussy on spec and model etc 

I’m a disco 2 fan, I have a facelift model in Manuel, it’s not for work it’s mine as I’m an enthusiast, there good to run, forget about mileage, you won’t get a low mileage one and if you do will be mega money, check the chassis and then check again, most will have been welded and as long as done right isn’t an issue, I prefer manual in older vehicles as the old torque converter boxes were sluggish.  Mine is a standard ES model and is slowly getting restored
