  1. We had closed the footpath and correct signage was in place, but due to the site situation, I was keen to open it as soon as possible after the tree was virtually all cleared up, just the trunk to cord up, and that was well away from the footpath, and I had briefed the crew on the method statement and had done a risk assesment prior to commencing work. It's very interesting listening to your views, especially as this is my first time at this forum stuff.
  2. No offence taken at all Dude, Really interested in what you all think. It's just that all the training courses that I've been on say that I should be an equal opportunities employer, So I suppose that I should employ my share of those that are new to the job. If I'm honest, really the reason why I fired him was not so much what he did, but the fact that he blatently denied all knowledge of it, and told me several times he had no idea how the wood chip got there. Honesty goes a long way in my books.
  3. Yeah, but think of the health and safety issues, what if a mother and child had beed walking along the foot path and he'd have fired that all in thier faces, that would have been a huge claim, sorry that was one mistake too far. Besides the tipper is big enough to see, it's basic common sense. P.S if you want to give him a try I can pass on his details.
  4. One that doesn't feed stuff through the chipper when the van isn't there to catch it !!!!!! see New Groundie youre fired.
  5. Just taken on a couple of new guy's, to help on the ground. One young lad has done a year at college, and on his C.V. he says he has good excellent key skills, and works well unsupervised. Well we were doing a Macrocarpa take down on the A12 slip road, lots of traffic etc, and we got the tipper full of chip, so I shoot off to tip leaving the guys to log up trunk etc, and guard the gear (we had every chancer in the district cruise by, several of them twice). I get back and there is all wood chip over the road? So I ask around, and nobody knows anything about it. Strange that! Anyway get back and I grill the new guy's, one doesn't know at all how it got there, so on final interegation, he admits that he turned on the chipper, but the branches went through themselves, well we all know thats not going to happen. They are both trained on the TW190TR that we operate, so it transpired that he fed them through and then realised there was no van there!! Was I too harsh in firing him I don't think so it was a health and safety issue, but the other groundie thought that he should have been given another chance. Wot u think:thumbdown:
  6. Hi deerman, Apologise for not getting back to you, for so long. Have been too busy. We are located near to Chelmsford, but our work is through out Essex, into Suffolk and down to London.
  7. Climber required for part time duties, to join our team as a third climber/ groundsman duties. We are based in Central Essex and you must have your own transport, and be suitably qualified, experience is preferred, but training can be given. Phone for further details. Andy 0800 135 7447
  8. If you are in the Bedfordshire area, I can recommend Stuart Brown Arborist supplies, at Blackmore Farm, New Road, Maulden. Stuart was in the industry before opening the shop, and has a wealth of knowledge. I have taken saws in and he's repaired them while I wait, really excellent service by a great bunch of lads ............
  9. If they got a Range Rover Sport, on the drive it's worth a hell of a lot more. that's how I price my loads!!!!
