  1. Have you read the section? it doesnt make sense. they dont even know what they mean by a 'stump'
  2. Anyone read the section on stump management(14)?! what a joke, how can they expect people to take that stuff seriously? stump management and retention! haha! wtf is a stump! i'm a tree surgeon not a stump surgeon! reading through the draft makes difficult reading, you'd almost think the people that made it up live in cloud cuckoo land. all those american 'z's everywhere as well, what a bloody disaster note to people who came up with the new draft - shred it!
  3. thats cranework, its unavoidable, unless the tree surgeon comes out the tree before the pick.
  4. its a very well made tree surgery video, normally they're very poor. dont know why they are making notches for lifting vertical pieces, did you notice the last cut comes in below the notch and the guy making it had the saw juddering like hell in the cut. Dont like the idea of using chains for that kind of work. They got the job done ok and everyone looked happy
  5. Skip to 20 secs on this vid, do a lot of tree surgeons have hooks on their harnesses for their saws like that? i've never seen it before, is it a new thing? is it a good idea? And what are those things on his forearms? hang on till 40 secs for some of the worst singing ever. [ame= ] [/ame]

    Nice rigging!

I posted this vid cause I'm either in the tree or runnin the rope when lowering stuff, so i've never seen a top being lowered from a distance like in the vid, poetry in motion it was. good groundie, running a top down that smooth is a art form without a doubt. the tree surgeon was also on a side stem which makes the smooth lowering all the more important, shock lock that stem and it just might break. Looked like a good tree surgeon as well.

    Spike Kickout!

Its not that I have a chip on either shoulder its just that when i go to work to as a tree surgeon, especially on big removals, i try to follow this simple motto - 'Yesterday I dared to struggle. today I dare to win'

    Spike Kickout!

If you've got good boots and strong legs you'll be fine. however, if your wearing flip flops and have chicken legs your probably right. You dont believe in learning from experience then?
  10. This is my last video highlighting safety issues. Skip forward to 35 secs in this vid, the guy is cutting a small biscuit from the top and goes to throw it without making sure his spikes are well stuck into the stem, the extra weight of the log causes spike kickout - [ame= ] [/ame]

    Foresight

Ok, i'll get some vids of my own tree surgery stuff. i just thought people would be interested in tree surgery videos where people make mistakes so we can try to learn from them. That guy nearly got a face full of chainsaw cause of his poor work positioning, i've never seen in caught on video before. Like skyhuck said he should have been standing on the limb feet apart with his knees bent (surfing style)and his lifeline taught with his secondary lanyard tight round the stem between his feet, that way he could absorb the bounce and stay upright. Can I show one more vid where someone makes a bad mistake please? its a good one.

Always be thinking ahead when doing tree surgery otherwise this might happen - [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg1gnM-dfxw&feature=related]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg1gnM-dfxw&feature=related[/ame] poor work positioning.
  13. nice one mate Gonna ad some fresh basil to that recipe as you say, the missus grows it for salads, gotta have parmigiano reggiano grated and sprinkled on top as well. Will try it during the week and let you know how it went.
  14. Looks like you had a good get together, pity about the rain. Do you all work as tree surgeons? the tree surgery industry needs more women, its very male heavy which leads to macho bullsh*t.
  15. Just tomato, something quick for dinner during the week. I was thinking 1 Tin of chopped tomatoes 2 cloves garlic 1 small onion 5 small mushrooms chopped 2 table spoons of tomato puree 1 cup of red wine I'm I getting close? would that taste ok? What am I missing?
  16. Ok, i'll tell you what i was thinking, and you can say yes or no.
  17. Anyone know how to make a basic italian tomato sauce to have with pasta? me and the missus want to make our own, instead of buying Loyd's. thanks.

    Basketcase!

Guy shockloads tree overhanging house working from a crane basket. another example of poor tree surgery [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyPjPACDqU8&NR=1]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyPjPACDqU8&NR=1[/ame]
  19. I've seen your type before on film and music forums, with your self proclaimed 'policeman' thing going on. you guys love to interrupt threads but have very little to say.
  20. Marriage is difficult. As for the wedding day, dont do a long speech, in fact dont do a speech at all.
  21. on that rope I'd use 500kgs as a rough guide for a max safe working load.
  22. that first photo is incredible but tandem ball riders in the sky doesnt sound like something I want to see, i could be wrong though.
  23. I've got the basic NPTC certificates. And I did buy a McCulloch chainsaw 13 years ago from B&Q. Thats how I started up. I was unemployed back then as the golf course I worked on as a greenkeeper was bought for development and turned into a private hospital for rich arabs. everything I have learned has been from books, mostly Fundamental general tree work by an American guy who has worked on some of the biggest trees in the world. it was given to me by the head greenkeeper who was American and used to work in Augusta and he learned treework from it. Its an old book but its the best by far for learning tree surgery.
