  1. I was talking to someone i work for about this problem last night, and he said that at the APF just been he mentioned it to one of the stihl blokes there and the responce he got was "bluddy hell i didnt know they did that!"
  2. Stihl's solution to a problem that never existed.
  3. Iv had similar problems with the oil caps. Stupid things. Push down, twist, and pray and it might just screw on propley!
  4. Has anyone else noticed this, you fill the oil tank in the 200 to where you think its full then if you tip the saw slightley to the side up pops a bubble of air hidden under the oil and you find only half the tank is full! Try it next time you fill up. Joe
  5. Im taking down a chestnut on saturday with pytophara. First time i have ever done one with this condition. it could be possible that the heat of the sun on the tree makes the red slime less viscose so it flows out easier? or the heat of the sun raises the preasure under the bark and forces the stuff out. I will have a look on saturday Joe
  6. I have been climbing in the Tree Austria 3 for about 4 months now after using a sky belt for 2 years. I highley reconmend the Austria 3 its fantastic! lightweight and amazing range of movement. The webbing used looks quite durable and i expect that the harness will last for some time. In my oppinion worth the money!
  7. I do a little blacksmithing and we call the repeted process of hitting steel at room tempreture work hardening. So perhaps the same is true of aluminium? Im not to sure how it would react to repeated droping. Metal fatiuge could happen and weaken the Karabiner. Joe
  8. I think in the end it comes down to a question of what the arborist belives is bennificial to the tree and wildlife, maybe topping the tree in this way will provide lots of room for insects and other wildlife but is unlikley to be benificial to the tree. As i said befor i would fell and try to provide deadwood habitat on the ground. if the tree was to coppice then thats even better. We have to think of liabilty issues as well, the tree is over a footpath and leaving big hunks of standing deadwood over the path is just not on in my book.
  9. Hi im new here! Personaly i never top and have walked from a few jobs where ive been asked too. So yer i would have felled too. Acording to something i was reading a few weeks back on hazel coppicing all broadleaf trees will coppice so perhaps its not too unusual to see the Fagus regenerating at the base. Maybe you could return to the tree in 6 months and fell if the regrowth at the base is sufficient to keep the tree alive?
  10. I find those latex coted cotton ones are good allthough as someone said they tend to get pulled to bits by the friction hitch. 'green jem' i think there called. £1 a pair on offer in woolworths!
