1. just spent the afternoon feeding the laimet chipper , hell it needs some power , i tried everything , but couldnt do anything with it

I started in 540 at 2000 revs put a 2", 6 footer in and it chipped nicely

so i moved on to a 3" with a 6" butt end and it stalled it, anything more than 4" just stopped the tractor dead

very nice chip for chp though

  2. It's hard being a single dad but soon my kids will be grown up and gone off doing their thing, so spending quality time with them now means a lot to me. It's week on week off with my youngest through the holidays and the eldest lives with me, but since moving I'm seeing my youngest more and more. I just work me arse off when I can to have the time off, I work the odd days during the holidays and work at night in the workshop. It might sound odd but it works :001_smile:

Dosent sound odd , every night i get tea ready , put them to bed , which does seem to be getting later every few months , then go into the workshop for a couple of hours

A mate of mine told me to enjoy every second with them , because it wont be long till they have other interests and daddy isnt the centre of there little world anymore

  3. It certainly improved my climbing speed the days I had to pick my eldest up from the childminder at 3.

It's tough mate, but it's well worth it

I didn't see my dad much during the week for the first 10 years of my life, and I bet many on here are the same.

I wouldn't want to miss things like this when I thought they were happily watching Teletubbies when I nipped downstairs for 5 minutes to wash up.

Your right the whole day revolves around time

Having to drop them of bang on time , and every minuite counts in the day

Get the job finished as quick as you can , no matter what

Then that horrible journey home , hoping that there wont be a traffic jam ahead

Getting to school to pick them up , on time , with a big sigh

    For them to say whats for tea { if only they knew}

  4. I can bribe them to help deliver logs, but trying to get them to sit in a tractor for 8 to 10 hrs , i dont think i could cope with the barrage of questions , or the arguments

So i get Grey Git to drive , i sit at home with feet up

The only problem i have with grey git [ and its a bigy] is he will keep changing the radio station

Should i thretten him with the sack, or use violence ?

  5. we both work but as i'm self employed and my wife only gets limited holiday i have to look after the kids for best part of 6 weeks. can squeeze work in here and there but its a tough few months!!

Same here wife works , luckily summer is my quietest time

    Good old grandma

  6. I gave up the rent on my yard nearly years ago now , the new guy was wanting to move in straight away , so we struck up a verbal deal that he would buy my remaining stock of approx 2-3 wagons of dry lengths stored inside for 2 years, loads of rings and a bit of mess to clean up deal done, as he only had 2 weeks to leave his old yard , thought i was helping him out i did.

Sent him the bill and waited , cant afford it at the moment , he said

He paid 2 small cheques then nothing , he dosent answer his phone, i told him if he cant afford it , to at least pay some , nothing

I text him i will have to take you to court , nothing

All the logs i have sold i have only had 1 loss , a bounced cheque for £80

It would have to be the last load i sold

The sad thing is he was a mate of mine

What should i do ????? GRRRRRR

  7. yes they are very good i had one it just fell to bits and it allways left some in

I think the tipper conversion was about 3k with a split swinging board to seperate 2 single loads you could back down a narrow alley and tip without getting out just a yank on a rope to unlatch the back door

I was difficult to tip in garages a few close calls tipping inside and of course when the logs came out the pickup would rise 6" or so

  8. I got thinking , my best purchase to do with firewood has got to be my tipping pickup .

It would take about 15 to 20 mins to through out 1.5 cube of logs , the pickup would hold 3 cube and take about 30 secs to empty

    Whats your best buy ??

  9. Agricultural processing vehicles

These are specialist agricultural vehicles that:

    (a) are used for the conveyance of built-in machinery for processing agricultural, horticultural or forestry produce that is used while the vehicle is stationary

    (b) are used on public roads only for proceeding to and from the place where that machinery is to be used, and

© when so proceeding do not carry any load except such as is necessary for their propulsion or for the operation of the processing machinery

This category includes mobile seed cleaning machines or feed milling machines.

  10. Does anyone run a chip truck on the forum

I was talking to a fella in the know today , that you can run them on red , dont need a tacho and dont need a hgv licence

I dont want to open a can of worms and i know it is a loop hole but people are doing it

  11. Hmm not sure , dont do it certainly springs to mind

Number 1 you have to enjoy splitting logs , if you dont enjoy hard work dont start

Number 2 Ther are lots of ways to split logs eg big proccesers and splitters , these are very expensive , ive been there lots of overheads and quick throughput , you can make a lot of money with a sawbench and splitter

Last year i used the mconnel and splitter to split 4 pickups in the day £200 per pickup BIG ISNT ALLWAYS BEST

Number 3 Got to be safety , in my time i only grazzed my finger once , thats with no guards on anything and a modified splitter so if you are accident prone dont start and be happy
