I have have some nasty names come to mind about Abbey Pro in the past. After spending over £1100 on my first purchace from them and months of trying to get a small item that was owed to me, could have been posted to me and that I had paid for (Still never recieved the item). Months of contact inc emails phone calls to Cris and visits to the shop to replace ropes that were half the length ordered. It cost me a lot in diesel traveling back and forth trying to sort the problems out. Abbey pro had lost much more custom from me. As stated above I still never recieved the item I paid for so I guess after reading that other people have had problems with the company my thoughts about Abbey Pro still stand. Keep your customers happy Abbey Pro no matter how much they spend with you.

Never tried it yet Jamie, Just bought that cord a couple of days. It was the only friction cord in from a local out door shop. Got some Roblon 10mm here that I just purchased online. You reckon that could be better.

I found out the hard way m8. I kept going on to my oldest to do this and do that but at a later date it all blew back in my face. Now I let the others make their own minds up on how they want to enter the real world. A little advice on the way shouldnt harm and should keep them on the right track though

Been in the private garden sector for well over 15 years now most of it involving tree and hedge maintenance. Looking to enjoy myself taking more NPTC courses with my sons for a few years more as they train for bigger climbs and hopefully expand and carry the business on. Love to be 20 years younger

Been trying to get the one due to leave soon to go to college but he just wants to get to work and do his NPTC's. Hate's school life I guess. (Wish I was back there.) Dont know about the rest m8. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I thought I would mark all of my kit for various reasons one of them includes my sons (One who works full time with me now. Another who will be joining us in a couple of weeks after he leaves school. Another next year and another the year after that. Dad can I borrow this or that’s mine, need I go further). Now I’m showing my age. Got to be worth marking it all I guess. Will be useful to ke track of how long I've had items and more. Thanks for the extra items to list Lancstree

I am marking my gear ready for LOLER. I am looking for a few tips to help me get it correct. So far I’m printing personal numbers on paper then laminating them numbers then shrink tubing them to ropes and friction cords. Metal items I am engraving. Each item have their own unique number example AB C 01, AB C 02 and so on AB initials, C climbing or R rigging and 01 02 etc for item number. Details of items and checks then recorded on its own page in excel then printed to carry with gear. Questions: 1. I purchased a boating swivel to attach my micro pulley to my harness. I thought this would be ok to use as it will not be bearing weight just used to advance the friction knot. Would this be ok to use and would it have to be marked up for LOLER? see attachment. 2. Do Climbing spurs have to be marked up for LOLER? 3. Do karabiners used for tool clips have to be marked up for LOLER? 4. Do Port wraps for lowering have to be marked for LOLER? Maybe a list of items to be marked up for LOLER might be of use to someone (myself included). If anyone could add to it I will start. For definitive information you should consult Schedule 3 to the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Regulations 1995 (S/I number 1995/2869). Dual purpose vehicles (eg Land Rovers) & their trailers. Includes Range Rovers, Jeeps, certain Japanese vehicles and those designed to go over rough ground as well as on roads. NOTE: All dual purpose vehicles must not exceed 2040 kg in unladen weight. More Info Here

May be of help to someone here. Involves towing restrictions with a 3.5 tonne truck. After buying a truck with a tacho fitted I decided to confrim a few points I had been told from different sources. Dont quote me on this but this is what I ended up with. Tachograph in a 3.5 tonne gross vehicle ========================================= If a tachograph is fitted in a 3.5 tonne gross vehicle it does not have to be used unless you are towing a trailer. Even then it may still not have to be used. (See Below) Towing a trailer for business use with a 3.5 tonne gross vehicle ================================================================= Tachgraph will have to be used unless ALL four rules apply below Four rules to abide by: 1. Total combined weight does not exceed 7.5 tonne (Check legal train weight for truck) 2. Stay in a 50km (31.6 miles) radius of home base of vehicle. 3. for carrying materials, equipment or machinery for the driver’s use in the course of his work. 4. on the condition that driving the vehicle does not constitute the driver’s main activity. If the trailer unloaded weighs more than 1,020 KGs an operaters licence will be required. (see below). The following taken from VOSA website PDF file (Rules on Drivers’ Hours and Tachographs Goods vehicles in the UK and Europe) Exemptions and derogations --------------------------- Vehicles or combinations of vehicles with a maximum permissible mass not exceeding 7.5 tonnes that are used: • for carrying materials, equipment or machinery for the driver’s use in the course of his work. These vehicles shall be used only within a 50 km radius of the base of the undertaking and on the condition that driving the vehicle does not constitute the driver’s main activity. ================================================================================== Operaters Licence ========================================================= No operaters licence will be needed if the trailer has an unladen weight of less than 1,020 KGs The following taken from the transport office website (Vehicles outside Operator Licence Requirements) It is also worth knowing that, when towing a trailer behind a vehicle that is around - or slightly below - 3.5 tonnes gross plated weight (e.g Ford Transit/Mercedes Sprinter sized vehicles), if the combined gross plated weights of drawing vehicle and trailer do not exceed 3.5 tonnes or (where there is no gross plated weight) the total unladen weights do not exceed 1,525 kgs, an operators licence will not be required. Please note that any trailer with an unladen weight of less than 1,020 KGs, need not be taken in to account in this calculation. Axeman
